....that crosses the Hudson River a little north of NYC. There were reports that a "caravan" is headed for the George Washington Bridge, too.

(37,171 posts)Small correction, the Mario Cuomo is a new bridge that replaced the old Tapanzee, which was demolished.

(76,133 posts)I used Tappan Zee a few times in the 90s. I read that the new suspension bridge was built right next to the old one.
The old bridge, even 25 years ago looked like it was in bad shape.
There were spots where I felt like the rust was what was holding it together.
edhopper
(37,171 posts)Built along side. But it was never the Tapanzee. We do rename bridges in New York, the Tri-Boro is now the RFK Bridge.
ProfessorGAC
(76,133 posts)Isn't that the bridge to go from LaGuardia to Manhattan?
Or is that JFK?

(12,712 posts)Just think what independent and undecided voters, as well as uncertain republican voters will think of this as far as four more years goes.
This cavalcade of wing-nuts are reminiscent of Jihadists parading around. The optics could push many people over the edge when they see where the trend of Trump Tramplers goes. It might just appear to very ominous and foreboding.
They think this is a sign of their support for Trump, but they don't realize it may bite them in the ass, especially when it shows that they are only for themselves and their agendas, just like Dear Leader.

(14,276 posts)Sooner or later they have to drive off the bridge and cops should be waiting on either side of the bridges to issue them some nice fat citations. They have sort have trapped themselves.

(11,506 posts)So, giving them a pass here. it's their right to do so.
But since fair is fair, as soon as the sun goes down, I EXPECT the local cops to show up with riot gear and tear gas, and abuse the ever living FUCK outta their Civil Rights.
Because its ALSO what would happen to BLM protesters if they closed that bridge.

I'm not.

(11,506 posts)I'm sure it isnt one that I would support at all.
But them standing out there is just fine with me. And it should earn the same response from the cops as if they were BLM protesters standing out there.

(14,276 posts)It was built alongside the old bridge which was dismantled and taken away for scrap.
Named for Governor Mario Cuomo. At the time it was being built it was the most expensive and ambitious public infrastructure project
in the country, if not the world. It was completed ahead of schedule and on time under the guidance of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
So yeah... we Democrats actually know what we're doing. America... all this competence could be yours.
Cha
(317,721 posts)I know it intimately. I drove over it every week for five years to take care of my parents in Jersey.
I watched the entire process progress, weekend by weekend. It was pretty cool They had barges in the river to hold all of the supplies and event trailers for the work crews. They had the largest crane in the country to take apart the old bridge and erect the struts on the new.
3.1 miles long so it was a mammoth undertaking.
LOL more than you wanted to know, Cha.

(317,721 posts)details! Mahalo!
I left Upper state New York in 2010 to retire to Kauai.. But in the 12 years I lived there.. I went into the city a few times with my sister, whose daughter lived there at the time. But I remember the name of that bridge.. & asked her about its unusual name.

Again, Thank you for your experiences with the Bridges!

(4,652 posts)traveling from NJ. When I was growing up, we took the Tappan Zee bridge from Brooklyn and Queens to upstate.
I was somewhat sad to see it go. I loved the low approach where it felt like you were driving on the surface of the Hudson for a while.
I do admit that the Mario Cuomo bridge is very spiffy though.

I used to love coming off the high part of the bridge and then drive over that long low stretch that seemed like it was only a few feet above the water.
