If the Governors and Secretaries of State of PA, MI and WI announced, at the close of the polls on Tuesday, that they will not release any vote tallies until noon on Friday November 6. Progress reports on the number of ballots counted would be issued periodically, but no tallies of votes for any race. Since some PA counties have already announced they wont even start counting mail in votes until Wednesday, this fits in with the reality on the ground.
This would cut off Trump at the knees, because there would be no way a red mirage of 270 EVs on Election Night could appear to give Trump a lead in the electoral college. How would his lawyers argue against this in court? That those states should be excluded completely from the EV count? That those states should be forced to release vote tallies on Tuesday night?
I know this isnt likely to happen, but just thought Id share something that popped in my head as I woke from my nap.
What do you think?

This has been beaten to death, but Trump can't do anything to force anyone to override state law where elections are concerned. They're done when they're done counting or when their state laws say they're done.

(25,426 posts)They should release them when they're ready or are legally required to. I really don't get what you think intentionally stalling would accomplish. The sooner Biden is declared the clear winner, the better.

(25,812 posts)People would start speculating truly stupid stuff. Releasing the counts as they happen, the way it's generally done, makes the most sense.
And the idea that early returns will show much of a Trump lead strikes me as probably not true. For one thing, most states have already been counting the early votes. Those will be the first ones released when the polls close Tuesday. And if it's true that the early voting is heavily in favor of Biden, well there will be a blue wave that simply won't stop. Although it may be interesting to see Republicans, especially Trump, suddenly wanting all the votes counted, including all the late arriving ballots.

(25,426 posts)The polls do show a huge edge in early voting for Biden, particularly in swing states. The sooner they're declared, the better.
