What May Keep Warren, Sanders Out of Biden Cabinet

Unless we pick up more than 13 net seats, this is a good idea https://politicalwire.com/2020/11/01/what-may-keep-warren-and-sanders-out-of-cabinet/

“Joe Biden’s team is considering an informal ban on naming Democratic U.S. senators to the Cabinet if he wins — which would effectively block Elizabeth Warren for Treasury or Bernie Sanders for Labor,” Axios reports.

“Biden, if he wins, is bracing for bruising legislative battles on day one, starting with the next phase of coronavirus relief. Many advisers don’t think he can afford to lose a single vote in the Senate if Democrats hold a slim majority.”

Also important: “Warren and Sanders both come from an unusual construct — blue states with Republican governors who’d be empowered to fill vacancies.”

his recent divisive blurt that the Democratic Party is the party of coastal elites.

This close to the election in our fight to rid the country of the worse president ever, and wannabe fascist, he comes out with that. Imagine what he'll be doing if he's ever in the cabinet when things do go his way.

Dem's hold veto proof majorities in both houses. They can change the law to require a special election.

So as long as coackley doesn't run again, dems can hold the seat, though it may be open for a time.

Charlie Baker gets to name her replacement. Then there is a special election, if Charlie decides to run, he could win, he's very popular here. They've already said they won't change the law.

He isn't as popular as you think; it's more that he is tolerated.

He only won because he ran against coackley, the single worst candidate in the history of the world. She also brought us scott brown.

And baker wouldn't get to appoint a replacement if the law forbid it. That's what happened when dukakks ran for potus. The law was changed and didn't allow an appointment prior to a special election. It wasn't needed as we all know, and it was changed back.

Remember, the senate chooses whether to accept an appointment. It isn't automatic, and if the law forbids it they would simply not seat the person even if baker tries to do it anyway.

Our hold on the Senate is likely to be razor thin. If some Dems from more conservative states can't be relied on, we absolutely can't risk losing Sanders and Warren's votes. The Scott Brown debacle can't be repeated.

...that we possibly can is of the utmost importance. Otherwise we end up where we were with President Obama: Mitch McConnell gumming up the works, zero compromise.

Just out of curiosity, do you think Dems are prepared on Day One (provided we get the Senate) to ram thru as much legislation and as many judges as fast as humanly possible, and keep it up for 2 years? I say “two years” because unless we are very lucky at turning out the vote in 2022, that may be all we get.

Thanks for all the info and the perspective you bring to us, Gothmog.

I would change the sixty-vote cloture rule on the first day of the new Senate. Why? Rand Paul.
