Historic Early Voting Lines in Polk County Iowa last week
From the Polk County Dems' weekly update...

Those Lines
We’ve been marveling at the lines of voters at the County Election Office for the last several weeks, but last week took on a genuinely historic hue. . . longer line was starting to form early on Monday. On Tuesday, people were standing in the snow. On Wednesday, people started sending pizzas and bottles of water. Musicians were showing up. On Thursday, the line was two blocks long by 8:30 AM. By Friday, the line was curling around the block at 7:40 AM. The evening streetlights were still on. On Saturday, the line was three blocks long.
By Saturday at noon, an astonishing 78,620 Democrats in Polk County had already voted. There were only 5,695 outstanding absentee ballots with Democrats for us to chase. Most surprisingly, Target Smart found that 167,597 of the early voters in Iowa didn’t vote in 2016. Something big may be happening in our county and our country. As Lori Hunt noted, “people aren’t standing in line in the cold because they’re so energized to keep the status quo.”

So even if not registered, the percentage is much higher of all those eligible to register and vote.

Only 43% of the total us population voted in 2016 (not eligible voters - total population).

We came pretty close to that percentage already!

The high end projected for turnout is 160 million... we are at 60% of that.

If we round that down to 72% for people in prison or otherwise ineligible to vote, and that's 40% of those who could vote have already voted.

While, in general, I'd love to see US voter participation even higher, I sure hope that we don't reach too much closer to 100% participation in the remaining days, because that remaining vote tilts heavily Republican.

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/10/04/2019-21663/estimates-of-the-voting-age-population-for-2018

Where are the other 157 million other voters? Why don't more people in the USA vote, if they are able? I believe they estimated that, as of the final vote count, there would be about 125 million votes counted for the whole country. That's still about 32 million people who aren't voting.

We have a lot of work to do.
