that so many of our countrymen and women can support such a vile, criminal, ignorant, belligerent POS.
It really makes me question where we are going as a country. And it is a bit depressing .
And don't say it's not close, even if Biden wins by 10 million votes, that is still nearly half the voters for Trump. Way too many in a sane country.

(61,699 posts)my only explanation is that the vast majority are simply a cult, brainwashed by decades of fox and rush.

(1,753 posts)brainwashing of America. Thankfully, more than half of us knew enough not to watch Fox or listen to Rush. Hubby was in the Air Force for 20 years and he said almost everyone (except him) would listen to Rush - every damn day! He, to this day simply cannot understand what the Hell were they thinking!

The final alliance of the racist, religious nuts and economic survivalist. They make a potent group. And there are a shit ton of them.

(31,261 posts)I often think of the LBJ statement about what a poor White man would allow if he was convinced that he was better than any Black man. I see White people that are pitifully poor being rabid Trump supporters, because he gives them false images of other people, races, nationalities, and they can hate those people.
I think these feelings were there for some, and Trump was the thing that exposed all the racism and hatred.

But something way worse happened to them, and this country will never be the same again.

(23,955 posts)I have been ranting that it is disgusting that there is even a hint of a question of who will win... I am mortified that more than a handful of people would consider voting for trump (certainly understandable that a fringe few might live in this country...but)
I am very troubled
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)To me it is a rather clear choice between Good (Joe) and evil (Trump). I have a hard time seeing how anyone can justify supporting evil.

(32,017 posts)230,000 Americans dead, and counting, in nine monthsmore people than we lost in the five years of WWII. Children in cages on the border. Civil unrest in our cities due to BLATANT racial bias. 40 million Americans unemployed. A crashed economy ...
NO INCUMBENT should expect to be re-elected under these circumstances, and yes. It pisses me off, to no end, that Trump STILL has as much support as he does.

(3,830 posts)Then I'll see how close it was. Obama and Romney was supposed to have been close.
The 2018 midterms were supposed to have been close.
Both were blowouts.
I think it's better to be cautious, but the GOP seems to have lost
women who live in the suburbs and college educated white people.
People are tired of Trump's shit.

(6,319 posts)IMO, trump activated the worst in deplorables and those people are just more hateful and unassumingly racist than they were before trump got elected. They have become much more extreme in the last 4 years. I dont recall seeing a credible attempt to kidnap a governor in modern US history.
exboyfil

(11,780 posts)I've read a lot of posts here about "followers" who mindlessly believe in some "strong" leader. I'm surprised anyone still thinks he is strong but a lot of people won't admit they were deceived. As it becomes more and more clear what a weak LOSER he is a lot of those types will abandon him.
But after he is gone we'd do well to remember the deep racist hatred they were trying to hide before.

(11,222 posts)Americans supporting Trump but the election is not close. I am not going to get into all the reasons there are so many Americans supporting Trump. There are lots of reasons. Just had an hour conversation earlier today about the issue and have been talking about it for months and about tired of it.

(37,179 posts)65 million out of 140 million is to close.

(787 posts)he cheated but for him to get nearly 50 percent of the votes was ridiculous. I remember being in hschool at the time and thinking how could a guy this stupid nearly get half of the votes that Gore should have won easily by a margin of 80-20. That election to me was an introduction to how stupid this country is. So I'm not shocked that this election will be close.

(2,355 posts)out those he started with. How can this possibly be a close race? Perhaps in the electoral college but certainly not the popular vote. I'm be shocked if he managed to get the same vote tally as before. I think the young vote is going to swing strongly in Biden's direction.
We'll see. I was sure wrong in 2016.
edhopper
(37,179 posts)and that is troubling.
But when you say not close? Last time it was roughly 63 million to 66 million, but even if this is 63 million to 73 million, doesn't almost 65 million Americans voting for this hateful charlatan disturb you.
I don't see 8% or 10% comforting. Yes that would be a great victory, but it is a vote between a good man and a waste of a human life.
