Amazing to be sitting here on election night eve, in this unique, very weird time...

I joined DU in 2004, looking for a haven after yet another Dubya presidency. And here we are, 16 years later, looking to escape the absolute worst four years politically of my life. Sure, the Reagan and Nixon years were really bad, as were Bush and Dub - but he who I can't even mention insulted all decent people everywhere with his ignorance, hollowness, and malicious intent.

It is amazing that a website - which is really a community - can provide so much support for so long. I've tried various ways to engage - whether moderating on DU2 (what a fun job that was!), or being a forum host (I am not particularly cut out for it), or many MIRT terms (again - what a fun job that is!). The nastiness of the 2016 primaries drove me away for a few months, but I realized I needed this place, so jumped back in.

I've been in awe of the passion, writing talent and brain power exhibited here so often - as well as so many clearly nice people. It is truly inspiring, and I often take great solace in things posted when I need a lift, or some confidence. What I like to do best is to find worthwhile things to read and post them here - many of you know I am not a TV water (I am actually a TV hater!), so reading is always the way I prefer to learn. I started doing it because I always appreciated how Don Viejo and XChrome and others did that - brought news items here to share. To me, reading and thinking and discussing what we read is how we grow. I also like to drive you crazy with data, such as my weeks of polling posts (which I will retire tomorrow - I promise!).

What do I expect tomorrow? Despite being beaten down by all things trump the last four years, I remain an optimist (especially when growing tomato plants) - so I foresee a big Biden victory. I don't want to jinx it, but we are due for a reversal of the constant spew of bullshit of the last four years. We deserve Biden/Harris - we so badly need it.

Thanks for being here, DU family - thanks, EarlG and elad. And Skinner - if you are lurking - thanks to you as well!

I think I ended up here around then too. Nothing like this place anywhere on the internet.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

As soon as you said "election night eve", I felt a bit like a child on Christmas Eve, with some trepidation about the possibility of a lump of coal.

I've been allowing myself to feel optimistic finally. In fact, I think there's a real good possibility of big things. In contrast, in 2016, I had a vague but persistent anxious feeling the last few days.

I've actually been sitting here thinking how blessed I feel to have this place to come to.

I came to DU in 2004 as well. I call this my home, my place of sanity. I don't know how I would have gotten through it without everyone here.

I live alone, and have been in almost total isolation since March. And yet I feel like I am sitting in a house the size of a football stadium, filled with people from all over the world. That football stadium is DU, and all of the people in it are all of the wonderful people who post on this site.

And as for tomatoes, I bought your book! One book for me, here in California, and one book for a cousin in West Virginia. And next year we are both going to grow the best tomatoes in the world!

We have been through hell and then some. We suffered for months on end thinking surely someone would stop tRump. But on he went like a bull in a china shop, insulting our allies and getting cozy with enemies, giving away state secrets at every turn. And every single day he insulted the people of this country and lied to us over and over. But no one saved us from his worst instincts. The loathing for tRump grew and grew until we now have all of our hopes pinned on tomorrow. The thought of four more years of tRump sickens me and more than that, it paralyzes me with fear. So I just can’t allow myself to go there. We must win and that is all there is to it.

I have my Prosecco and will make some tasty snacks for watching the returns on MSNBC. My mind is on a Biden-Harris victory! We deserve it after what tRump has done to the USA.

I hope we’re all able to send up a cheer before the night is over but if it takes longer to make sure Biden won, we can do that, too. We’ll have Patience while waiting for victory and symbolically telling tRumpolini.....You’re fired!!

Time-wise, it's already past 6pm Tuesday here.

Joe & Kamala have got this. This misery and injustice will end in ignominy for 45. There are too many decent people in the US to put up with him and his thugs.

All the best DU....
