Based on the level of nervous energy I am experiencing from 4000 miles away I cannot imagine how you all must be feeling as the dawn of a new hope for tomorrow is so within your grasp. I am thinking of you and hoping with all my might that the blow to Trump will be so crushing that the entire criminal cabal scatters to the four winds.
For the first time ever I will not be doing an all nighter as I have work tomorrow, but I will log on first thing in the morning to see how you have all managed to cope with the stresses of the most important American election in history.
Good luck chaps and tend to your mental well being today.

(4,859 posts)I've been somewhat embarrassed to be an American during the Trump era. However, the massive effort to get rid of the Rump has reassured me that America will survive. I'm grateful to all of our allies who have hung in there with us. It will take awhile to repair the damage, but it will be done.
Soph0571
(9,685 posts)I am sure that the damage repair will be reasonable straight forward as everyone knows Trump is a mad man and Biden is the opposite of Trump

Thanks all for the good thoughts, Soph.

2016 was such a stunner, I was at work, trying not to let my shocked disappointment show. Polls were optimistic then to so I think we're all apprehensive or should be. The only consolation for Californians was the fact that marijuana was also legalized on that night, I don't know what we would have done if we didn't have that to get us through these four years. Wine may start flowing early, medicinally of course

(9,685 posts)and apart from Russia and China everyone wants Trump to lose, what does that tell you.
PatSeg
(47,234 posts)what we all know! There's nothing subtle about this president. I kind of wonder about China though. I think they've pretty much have had their fill of this clown already. Trump has alienated almost everyone on the planet. Must suck to be the most hated man in the world.

(1,725 posts)I'm African-American, but when I traced our family tree, I was shocked to find that my slaveholding family in VA was descended from Edward IV. Who knew! I've been an anglophile since childhood, but never even considered that, nor thought of it, nor wished it. Doesn't change my perspective - I am a black American. But I think of Brits as my cousins.
Thank you for your wishes and I appreciate it!
PatSeg
(47,234 posts)I've always been an anglophile as well and most of my roots go back to Britain, including Edward IV. No African-American ancestry unfortunately. When I did a DNA test years ago, I was hoping for some unexpected diversity, but almost all indicators go back to the British Isles.
I was lucky to find out about it. My VA slaveholding ancestors were closely involved with the most famous VA families, which means there is documentation - there were letters, court records, even books written about them. It wasn't easy, took decades, and I'm still making discoveries!
I took the DNA tests too, but it only helps if others in the family also did, so... but hey, I'm fortunate to have found out so much!
But Edward IV - which means it goes way back even further. Nice to meet ya!

(47,234 posts)I've been working on our family tree for over twenty years. Fortunately, my mother's cousin had started it before I was even born, so I had a bit of a head start.
"I'm still making discoveries" - that's what is cool about genealogy, there is always something new to discover, as well as relatives you didn't even know existed. Once you hit on a famous historical figure, a lot of branches open up pretty easily. Sometimes it is more than you need or want, but I love history, so its always interesting for me.
As for the DNA testing, people often crop up when you least expect it. We've found several relatives that way.
Happy Election Day!

(1,725 posts)I've not touched the genealogy thing this year because of this god-awful year we've all suffered from, and this horrendous sociopath in the WH. But tomorrow, or the next day, I can LIVE again, and get back to the things that used to take up my extra time. CAN'T. WAIT.
I've put so many things on hold this year. I look forward to being somewhat normal again. Its nice to know we aren't alone in feeling like this. Today is a major turning point!

We're going to win this! Needless to say, the booze will be flowing. And there will be dancing in the streets.
