General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forumsthe odd thing about this election is that the will of the people seems very clear.
virtually no serious analyst or commentator is thinking that donnie actually has the support of a majority of americans.
the vast majority of analysts think biden will win the popular vote.
donnie's entire electoral strategy hinges on winning the electoral college despite losing the popular vote, and even at that, his strategy depends on massive disenfranchisement, both prior to election day and on and after election day, through litigation.
helluva democracy when the will of the people is basically known, but the outcome of the election remains in doubt. granted we're still thinking biden has a 90% chance, but given the polls and the will of the people, it really should be much higher.

(25,467 posts)It's theoretically possible that Biden could win the popular vote by 10% and lose the EC.
That is, at its most basic, insane.

(52,200 posts)there's certainly been a trend toward focusing on battleground states rather than trying to cover the whole country. that said, i think all previous political candidates really did try to win a majority of america and tried to build platforms and coalitions with that goal.
that has a lot to do with why people grudgingly accepted shrub winning in 2000, because both candidates tried to win a majority and it was a really close election, and while really, the right answer is of course actually counting all the votes, it's not far off if someone wins when it was a virtual tie.
but donnie's strategy really has always been to piss off a majority of america and so rile of a determined minority, particularly in key electoral swing states, so as to win the electoral college without winning a majority of the people.
fundamentally anti-democracy.

(52,200 posts)even here is relatively safe blue connecticut, there are many businesses which have foxnews on constantly, and plenty more people who watch it at home. at least they mostly recognize that it's not the dominant view around here.
easier to be convinced the foxnews view is the only view when you're in a deep red area like the one you mentioned, but there are a ton of people deep into that kool-aid....
