US President Donald Trump has welcomed election day with a bizarre video edit of himself awkwardly dancing to the Village People's iconic hit 'Y.M.C.A.'

Trump shared the two-minute video to his Twitter page on Tuesday night (NZ time) with the accompanying caption urging Americans to "VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!".

He has previously been asked by former members of the Village People to stop playing their songs at his rallies.

Victor Willis, the band's police officer, told BBC News copyright laws mean he can't do anything about the use - but he is opposed to it.
