without actually being the majority.

Hence all the flag and gun waving, along
with voter suppression and intimidation.

4. Some people vote for the guy they think is the most popular

It’s a habit that all too many people form in primary school: they’ll vote for the guy they think is the most popular because he’s popular and they think it will make them popular too, whether or not Mr. Popularity will be good to them or not. I’m afraid that it’s a trait all too deeply ingrained into our primate psychology, and that too many people resort to the idea first rather than doing a little cogitation before they vote.

10. The Psychology Behind Donald Trump's Unwavering Support
Wed Nov 4, 2020, 04:43 AM

1. The Dunning-Kruger Effect

Some believe that many of those who support Donald Trump do so because of ignorance — basically they are under-informed or misinformed about the issues at hand. When Trump tells them that crime is skyrocketing in the United States, or that the economy is the worst it’s ever been, they take his word for it.

The seemingly obvious solution would be to try to reach those people through political ads, expert opinions, and logical arguments that educate with facts. Except none of those things seem to be swaying any Trump supporters from his side, despite great efforts to deliver this information to them directly.

The Dunning-Kruger effect explains that the problem isn’t just that they are misinformed; it’s that they are completely unaware that they are misinformed. This creates a double burden.

Studies have shown that people who lack expertise in some area of knowledge often have a cognitive bias that prevents them from realizing that they lack expertise. As psychologist David Dunning wrote in an op-ed for Politico, “The knowledge and intelligence that are required to be good at a task are often the same qualities needed to recognize that one is not good at that task — and if one lacks such knowledge and intelligence, one remains ignorant that one is not good at the task. This includes political judgment.” Essentially, they’re not smart enough to realize they’re dumb.

Then he said something about the Israelis and the Palestinians and I said something about The Troubles in Ireland — and we just had to leave it there.

Most of the country is blanked by wall-to-wall right-wing spin. A couple of cable tv talking heads don't counterbalance multiple overlapping hours-long harangues.

17. Because he is brash and bold
Wed Nov 4, 2020, 07:46 AM

Unfortunately for us, we usually tend to choose "safe"..

Safe is a loser

repubs are bold..they are ruthless, not afraid to cheat..they never apologize
They crave power and use it to the nth degree with no shame.

We only win when we have charismatic candidates..

FDR...JFK..CLINTON..OBAMA

With the exception of FDR, they were also young..

LBJ I excluded because he was elected so soon after the assassination and then chose not to run again

Carter was excluded because he rode the crest of the Christian movement and did have something special about him...minus the necessary pizzazz..and that round repubs had a boring moderate as well ...Ford

When we go "safe/moderate" we lose..

DUKAKIS...MONDALE..KERRY...
GORE...HILLARY

I was no Bernie zealot, but he could have beaten trump

I think Dean could have beaten Bush

We continuously serve up vanilla frozen yogurt without toppings, and are surprised when we lose

People want pizzazz..we try to sell them safe..

18. 'cause they are assholes and/or stupid. Sorry, but

that is the simplistic way of saying it. Of all the egregious things *rump has done, the 'character' (lack of) that he exhibits, the zero empathy for covid victims, the science denying, - wait, I need to stop listing or I will be here all day - they have to be either stupid and not understanding or informed on any issues, or they if they do, then they have to be assholes to abide that crap.
Sorry, but I am in a crude mood this morning.
