too many of the American voters are just fucked up. The blame lies with them, not her.

We'll see if that has ever been done before

(14,559 posts)Been saying that all along.
All of the slagging on Hillary is what they want - it takes the focus off the real issue, that they are truly horrible people.

(933 posts)Best candidate, she deserved much better than she got.

(1,733 posts)Her biggest campaign mistake: she said half of Trump supporters were a "basket of deplorables."
That basket was overflowing, and deplorable was a gross understatement.

(3,261 posts)It's not about "good" or "bad" candidates. The Democrats are the party of tolerance. That alienates large swaths of today's electorate.

(14,852 posts)My particular blue-collar county voted for Biden instead of Trump this time, but it obviously doesn't mean jack-squat compared to the growing force of rural counties in my damn state.

(1,406 posts)How she would have performed we will never know. But going in, hands down she was much better for the Presidency.

(25,380 posts)not visiting Wisconsin every five minutes didn't matter, rallies didn't matter, she talked about the economy all the damn time, talked about green energy, all the progressive plans she had and it didn't matter.
Not about the candidate. 2020 proved that.

(11,248 posts)you start to look around at the "qualities" (to use the term very advisedly) that make for electability in this country -- and it doesn't speak particularly well ...
Was HRC without mark or blemish? Nope. But then -- neither is Biden, or anybody else that's been around for longer than 5 minutes.

(652 posts)knowing I am a Democrat, along with tons of his R friends. It listed 40+ lies about Hillary, including pizzagate, murders, lots of conspiracy theories.
I replied to all with links that proved these were lies and conspiracy theories.
Did it change any minds? No.
I have come to the conclusion that this boils down to misogyny and a willingness to believe lies and conspiracy theories that have been debunked by facts.
Hillary would have been a great president. I voted for her, as did the remaining 5 members of my family (unless husband lied, which he likely did).

Like they say Democrats fall in love Republicans fall in line.

(9,952 posts)She ran a near flawless campaign but with her loss came every blame and accusation that could be thought of. And here we sit. A nation having experienced Trump for four years, evidence of his demented behavior and pretty damn close to the same thing.

(11,726 posts)She had excellent qualifications and skills and would have been a great President. She faced sexism AND the baggage of a 30+ year smear campaign from conservatives.
Biden had the advantage of being a man, and not having such vitriol thrown at him over his decades of service.
The Blame lies in many places. People don't just vote "because". Our education system is messed up, the way we vote, the way we apportion votes, money as the principal vehicle for promoting political speech, how we "debate", how politics is discussed (separate from life and as some sort of a "contest" .
Democrats want government to help with a lot of complex issues, meaning a lot of difficult and sometimes boring policy discussions.
Republicans want to maintain a power structure of wealthy, White, Christian (mainly Protestant) men, and will say or do anything to maintain that.
It is easier to convince people that "others" who are different than they are, are trying to take something from them or gain some unfair advantage, than it is to convince people to band together in common interest to take on people with actual power over the political system.
