"In 2000, it was all FL, which had been called for Bush. Their case was easy."

Also huge: In 2000, it was all FL, which had been called for Bush. Their case was easy. Now the case is "Stop the count in PA, GA, NC (where we're winning), but find more votes in MI, AZ, NV (where we're not)."

In 2000, one of Bush's greatest advantages was the *perception* that he had won, thanks to a questionable Florida call (reversing an earlier questionable call for Gore). This time the situation is reversed, with Biden the presumptive winner. Very big difference.

In Florida, it was 500 votes in one state so there was an opening (still a completely inappropriate decision, of course).

Here, Trump would be asking the Supremes to force multiple states to overturn multiple state laws and election rules, and that's simply not going to happen.

by not immediately demanding a full, statewide recount and ultimately ended up getting outplayed by the Bush team. A lot of time was wasted and that ultimately gave the SCOTUS of the time an opening for its decision.

There was no question a full recount would have been justified, of course, and it would have eliminated a lot of the criticism and delays.

The Gore campaign, foolishly believing Florida was a land of laws and not men, followed the election law on the books in Florida. They had problems with the vote counts in three counties, and filed their challenges just before the 72 hour deadline in those three counties. The Bush campaign was caught flat-footed, but luckily the Governor of Florida was the candidate's brother and the Secretary of State was the candidate's statewide campaign manager. Once the Bush campaign wrenched the Gore legal challenges away from Florida county judges and got the entire state results in the federal court of appeals and eventually the Supreme Court, the case was easy. But it took a whole lot of collusion and disregard for Florida law to get to the Bush v. Gore decision.
