Message from Joe Biden

This just came in:

After a long night and day of counting, it is clear we are winning in enough states to reach the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

I am here to report that when the count is finished, I believe I will be the winner.

We knew -- because of the unprecedented early vote and the mail-in vote -- that it was going to take a while. We’re going to have to be patient until the hard work of tallying the votes is finished. And it ain’t over until every vote is counted, every ballot is counted.

With all the votes counted, we have won Wisconsin by 20,000 votes. In Michigan, we lead by over 70,000 votes, and it’s growing. And I feel very good about Pennsylvania. We flipped Arizona and the second district of Nebraska.

So, if we believe this, game is over!

Yesterday, we once again proved that democracy is the heartbeat of our nation -- just as it has been for more than two centuries.

Even in the face of a pandemic, more Americans voted in this election than ever before in American history. Over 150 million votes were cast. I think that’s just extraordinary.

I’m grateful to the poll workers, to our volunteers, our canvassers, everyone that participated in this democratic process.

And I’m grateful to all of my supporters all across the nation. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Every time I walked out of my grandpa’s house up in Scranton, he’d yell, “Joey, Keep the faith.” And my Grandma, when she was alive, would yell, “No, Joey spread it.”

You Joe Biden are quite welcome!

20. Nebraska 2nd District
Thu Nov 5, 2020, 01:57 AM
Nov 2020

Joe Biden didn't just win the 2nd district, he won it by a landslide (11.1%).

How is it that Nebraska awards 1 electoral vote in each congressional district and thus put Joe at the magic 270 number.

A barber by trade, Ernie Chambers went on to be the longest serving member of Nebraska's unicameral. In order to get rid of Chambers from the legislature they set 8 year term limits, but allow for someone to run again after being 8 years out of office. So, after he was term limited he waited the 8 years and was again twice elected and was just term limited for the 2nd time.

Along the way he spent years attempting to change how Nebraska allocates its electoral votes and finally got it passed. His simple argument was that unless Nebraska did that no political candidate would ever campaign in Nebraska so it would bring money into the State that wouldn't otherwise be spent here.

After Obama narrowly won the district in 2012 Nebraska Republicans were furious at the loss and started a drive to get it removed. Chambers to the rescue.

Chambers, who is black, has served as the only black member of the Unicameral. And he has done it with an uncanny set that allows him to be a productive State Senator.

Let's give a shoutout to State Senator Ernie Chambers for his prominent role in making it possible for Omaha to put Joe Biden over the top (even if PA slips into the Biden column it sure made today feel a lot better).

5:00 pm Wednesday. As I listened to his calm, firm, reassuring tone, I felt like I had slipped into a time warp and was hearing a fireside chat. Nothing to fear but fear itself. No, Biden did not quote FDR on that, but it felt like the same quality of leadership in a crisis.
