McCain's concession

... McCain acknowledged the historic nature of .. Obama’s win ...

He urged his supporters to work with Obama in a bipartisan fashion ...

The contrast couldn’t be starker from this year’s election, with Trump launching a legal blitz to halt vote counting as armed protestors descend on tallying centres.

The Secret Service has allegedly drawn up plans to remove the President with force if he loses the election and refuses to leave the White House ...

I mentioned in a previous post that character counts. The biggest reason I could never support Donald Trump, before I even get to policies or politics, is that he's a dick.

The primary example I used is John McCain taking the microphone back from the elderly woman saying that she's scared o an Obama presidency and that Obama is a Muslim (maybe a "Muslim terrorist", not sure of the exact wording at the moment), and John McCain took back the microphone from the woman and told her and everyone else you shouldn't be afraid of an Obama presidency.

I thought "would Trump have done that?" and the answer is an astounding "FUCK NO!"

When a candidate loses a U.S. presidential election, tradition holds the candidate promptly and publicly acknowledges defeat in a concession speech to help with the peaceful transition of power.

The speech .. is typically a gracious celebration of American democracy. The Chicago Tribune and Arizona Republic opinion columns have held up .. McCain's concession .. as an example of the tradition done right ...

... What does a prospective leader of the free world do when he’s on the ropes? Well, sometimes he concedes gracefully. Sometimes he comes out — as Joe Biden did during the night — to tell his supporters to keep their chins up and stay optimistic. And sometimes he gets his son and Rudy Giuliani to rant about conspiracy theories outside an airport in Philadelphia.

So it was that Eric Trump, Lara Trump, Rudy Giuliani and Corey Lewandowski stepped in front of cameras ... It was a press conference that was originally planned for 3.30pm ET, cancelled, and then un-cancelled and rescheduled for an hour later. At 4.35pm, Team Trump wandered out in front of a gathering of people in Stars and Stripes masks holding “Make America Great Again” signs. And what a motley crew it was.

First up was Eric, a man no one has ever accused of possessing a statesmanlike quality. Continuing his performance piece from the Republican convention, he flailed his arms and declared victory for Dad in Pennsylvania, screaming that “ballots have been found in drainage ditches”, there was “rampant corruption”, and “this isn’t democracy”. Giuliani crouched behind him, holding on to a comically oversized book which was presumedly supposed to make him look legally intimidating. The former mayor of New York would be “basically leading” the legal efforts for team Trump, Eric said, before handing over.

... “In Wisconsin, mysteriously at two o’clock in the morning, 100,000 ballots appeared,” Giuliani continued. It’s not clear if “these are really ballots” or “if it isn’t the same person who did 100,000 ballots.”

... we know that Giuliani is also the kind of person who believes that Borat is real. ...

Sad to see they think it might be necessary. That says something about how they see trump, eh? I deeply pity the agents who get stuck with him after Jan 20.
