(986 posts)I was looking at the rules of flying the flag on the American legion web page and it says
) The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.
) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
I don't think they put a light on it at night or take it off the truck every night and I think they are talking about much smaller flags attached to cars

(15,536 posts)We had to learn these rules back in grade school in the 1950's so when I see someone disrespecting the flag in any way, it irritates me. That's why I'm advocating that Democrats need to start flying flags and take back the flag from the Republican party. They don't own our flag!

(15,536 posts)I don't see flags on the houses that have Biden/Harris signs or any other Dem running for office, but I see a gazillion on the trump sign houses. Same as 2016 also. I know it's just anecdotal but in my neighborhood it's the known trumpers who have flags on their pickup trucks. The Democrats I know in my neighborhood don't fly flags, but then again most of my neighbors don't fly flags.
Just my experience where I live close to a rural area in a red county.
