I've been thinking all day this is also like a Frank Capra story with a Gary Cooper or Jimmy Stewart as the hero. Capra movies are gut wrenching, showcasing a horrible villain with lots of emotional ups and downs. And just when it looks most perilous, the hero prevails and all is right with the world.
