If the courts actually overturn the results of this election, this will no longer be my country (Original Post) still_one Nov 2020 OP
The courts aren't going to overturn the election. bearsfootball516 Nov 2020 #1

and push the lie that the election is illegitimate. It doesn’t make sense because there were enough republicans in other races who won, but this is extremely irresponsible and dangerous

In 2000 the poor design of ballots in south Florida created questions about how the vote counts were tallied, leading to intervention by the courts and ultimately giving the Supreme Court an excuse to stop the counting.

There's no such issue now. The laughable conspiracy theory about sharpie pens in AZ was quickly refuted by the state's own attorney general, who is a Republican. Trump's efforts to intervene with courts in PA and MI were immediately thrown out.

Trump can tweet that there is voter fraud but unless he has some kind of evidence there's no standing for courts to intervene.

So far, all the cheating seems to be on his side, with voter suppression efforts.

to declare the election illegitimate

They are assembling their lawyers right now in Virginia, at least that is what is being reported in CNN, along with sending out email to their supporters

Santorum on CNN is pushing this bullshit based on so-called videos on the internet, which we all know are probably manipulated

They are playing with fire, and trying to cause civil unrest

In 2016 it was clear trump was a racist, sexist, and bigot, and many dismissed it.

They are telling us their game plan, and we better not dismiss it

His one "win" was allowing observers to sit four feet closer to vote counters.

Yeah, sounds like they're about to overturn the entire election. Come on....

Jan. That is how our system works. Still. I will admit we dodged a bullet though. 4 more years of Trump and I am not sure I could say that. But the best thing for us to do now is to follow Joe Biden's lead of lowering the temperature level of political discourse and not engage in idle speculation about what the SCOTUS might or might not do. That is why I say just stop. You are not helping.

it is going to be very difficult for that "temperature" to be brought down

It will be the WH that will be inciting this

As you said Biden will be trying to reach out and engaging with republicans in Congress, and we will see how that goes, but when you see Graham, Cruz, Kevin McCarthy and other major republicans going out on the airwaves pushing the administration lie of the election illegitimacy, it will be difficult because Pandora's box has already been opened

hope so. We need him to help rein in Trump during the transition. And his majority is on the line with the 2 specials in GA. So he will do it for pragmatic reasons if not for ethical ones, which we know are pretty much nonexistent. Angry Biden voters in GA can take away his majority now.

That was always a Trump pipe dream. Why we bought into it and wasted so much time on it, I'll never understand.

John Roberts even tried to warn him. He made a very pointed, public statement that courts don't determine election rules or laws; state legislatures do. That was obviously targeted at Trump.

There is no doubt they are trying to cause civil unrest, and that presents some extremely dangerous prospects
