Almost 30 years. Alan Cranston, who was last elected in 1986.

Tunney in 1970 (one term) in the other seat (Cranston was first elected in 1968). Before Tunney, another 1 termer (well less, he died in office) Clair Engle in 1958. He is best remembered for participating in the vote breaking the filibuster of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the US Senate while partially paralyzed and unable to speak, shortly before his death from a brain tumour.

like Becerra or Padilla, proven state-wide winners and would also fulfill the first Hispanic senator from Calif.

Can't depend on her Orange County seat to remain in Democratic hands.

On edit - I'd also rather see her take Speaker of the House in a couple years as she gets more powerful going forward. Short cutting to the Senate does not give her the leadership experience and reputation she needs to get speaker.
