Shows that Republicans are not only wretched people, they are beyond reaching I am afraid.
It also shows that we have to keep our people motivated or we are going to lose the next one.
53% of Trump voters belonged to a Union. Bad look but not 53% of the Total Union Vote.
96% of Trump Voters said he is doing a good job on the Pandemic.
85% Want to see Abortion Illegal in all cases.
90+% Said Getting the Economy back is more important that halting Covid-19.

(1,777 posts)We know in-person voting skewed very heavily red.
Exit polls are always crappy, but doing a traditional one this year is absolute malpractice.
Gives the mind of the voter and their issues, and OH boy the pubs have lots of issues.
This year gives you an almost laboratory clean picture of the competition.

(4,741 posts)But this is a sampling from Republicans only; the red-blue imbalance is completely irrelevant if you're only looking at red.

(3,947 posts)could not have been worse framing if it had come from Karl Rove.
Maybe it did come from Karl Rove....and enough boneheads
repeated it to do real damage.

(29,322 posts)In June 2020, the "defund the police" slogan gained widespread popularity during the George Floyd protests.[6] Black Lives Matter, Movement for Black Lives, and other activists have used the phrase to call for police budget reductions and to delegate certain police responsibilities to other organizations.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] In Black Reconstruction, first published in 1935, W. E. B. Du Bois wrote about "abolition-democracy", which advocated for the removal of institutions that were rooted in racist and repressive practices, including prisons, convict leasing, and white police forces. In the 1960s, activists such as Angela Davis advocated for the defunding or abolition of police departments.[15] The End of Policing, written by Alex S. Vitale, was published in 2017, and it has been called "... a manual of sorts for the defund movement."[16]

Look at the exit polls. Trump voters are stupid.
Scream Police Accountability then cut their budget if you want. After you win.
Coupled with nightly "rioting". Once the message was corrupted do not give them the club to beat you with.

(29,322 posts)Los Angeles voters have approved Measure J, also known as Reimagine LA County, which requires that 10 percent of the citys unrestricted general funds estimated between $360 million and $900 million per year be invested in social services and alternatives to incarceration, not prisons and policing.
As of Wednesday afternoon, with a majority of votes counted, 57.1 percent of voters supported the measure, 42.9 percent opposed, according to the Los Angeles County registrar.
The measures passage comes at a moment when activists across the US including in LA have called for defunding police departments. While Measure J isnt directly a defund the police initiative, it was designed as an important first step toward the public health and investment-based model of public safety that animates the defund movement.
A critique often made by police reformers of all stripes is that American cities rely far too heavily on law enforcement to address issues like substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness that would be better handled by social service providers and civilian responders. Thus, they generally agree that some level of funding should be redirected from police department budgets to those alternative service providers.

If you don't want to defund your local police department, don't. However, it is not going to stop others.
Local control is what makes change happen, but California was not in question as to Hair Trump.
Sometimes showing the sausage being made turns people off.
"My Fire is more important that your Fire" does not always work out. A Californian more than anybody can understand that.
Final word though, Cheers to us ALL. The Naked Emperor is dead.

(2,475 posts)Then the union leaders in PA and around the country suck at their messaging.
As a member, I watched Scotty Wanker destroy the unions in WI. It's easy to do when the public has no idea what unions do for them, even if they are not part of one. A hundred thousand of us marching around the Capitol didn't do shit, people don't care unless it impacts them in a direct, tangible, and it may have to be a painful way.
This represents another area where the Dems need to hire aggressive, competent, young PR folks to immediately work on how we better convey our message. With almost half of America supporting the impeached Anus, there is so much room for improvement.

(14,853 posts)... they used to climb toward a better life.
Witnessed it among the union workers in my area years ago while me and the other newer employees were paid near minimum-wage and also paying union dues. The far-better paid long-timers didn't give a shit.

(7,859 posts)Many of these early exit polls will be later adjusted based on the final composite of the electorate. Just ignore them for any concrete analysis right now. Check back in a couple of months when the final votes are tallied and the exit polls are finalized.

(1,406 posts)I am not encouraged that Trumps numbers will change with any significance.
We have seen their rabid behavior right before our eyes.
"Only they are the True Patriots that can save America."

(4,741 posts)There's no comparison or balance here, this is what only Republicans answered. Maybe Rs who mailed in have somewhat more temperate views and the numbers will soften a bit if they're ever taken into account, but this isn't "versus" data so the massive R/D imbalance at the in-person polls simply isn't a factor.
Think of it as a poll of "Republicans who voted in-person".
W_HAMILTON
(7,859 posts)...which we won't fully know until more finalized election results are in, meaning, these numbers could change. Don't put too much stock in them. If you want to argue that there are too many union workers that support union-busting Republicans, I wholeheartedly agree with that, but don't rely on incomplete and early exit polls as support to do that.
sir pball
(4,741 posts)If it were something like "58% of voters said unions are bad" I'd totally agree with everything you said, but this is just the numbers for Republicans. It doesn't matter if only 10% of Dems who voted have been polled yet; even after they're factored in, and other influences are accounted for, the *exit poll* numbers are finalized, and the number I invented changes to "22% of voters said unions are bad" - it's not likely that the % of Republicans who think "unions are bad" is going to change significantly, since a. they mostly voted in-person and b. even the mail-in Rs probably have pretty similar views, they have become very lockstep.
Can you explain why you think these numbers would change as Democratic numbers come in?
W_HAMILTON
(7,859 posts)Early exit polls are not representative and will be adjusted as actual election results come in. You can make the same argument you are making without referring to exit polls at all, because we already know that many union workers support anti-union Republicans. Like I said, just argue that point instead of referencing incomplete and changing exit polls that won't be finalized until weeks, if not months, from now.

(10,828 posts)Then there are others who are uninformed and addicted to the disinformation, the scurrilous propaganda and believe everything they read or hear online. Facebook, for instance. Right-wing radio, Fox News, Brietbart-like rags and Qanon conspiracy theories.
Even without Trump, this malignant artery will keep pumping the lies, obfuscate the facts and muddy the waters.
That's an ongoing problem which has effectively poisoned the body politic. We need to find the antidote.

Have they not noticed all those plants shutting down?
Willful ignorance is hard to cure.
The numbers are, Trump had voters that 53% belonged to a Union.
Bad, but he did not pull in 53% of Union Votes.

(11,728 posts)What it shows is that propaganda works.
I am willing to make a sizable bet that most if not all of those particular people (YES even the Union people) get their news from Fox and right wing radio entirely or predominantly.
It isn't about Democrats "motivating" people, it is about the propaganda that people get from a vast right wing media system. Union members voted for Trump because they actually think that he brought jobs back, when in reality, jobs were shifted around but ultimately lost. 93% of people who voted for Trump think he is doing a good job because all they hear is how he is doing a good job while the "Democrat run cities...." Propaganda, plain and simple. 90% said getting the economy back is more important than halting COVID-19? Again, plain and simple ignorance and propaganda. How the FUCK do we get the economy back up without stopping COVID-19? We have lost MORE THAN A QUARTER MILLION PEOPLE in less than a year, and that was with some States and local jurisdictions shutting down completely. If we were to simply do as the soon to be former idiot in chief said and "open it back up" There would be 2 million dead now and the economy would STILL be in shambles. What the FUCK do they think will happen? People will get sick and die, workers will die or will have to leave work to take care of dying family or take care of kids whose parents died. DO they think the economy is MAGIC and runs without healthy people in it. Every year we lose HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars from missed work to regular, known, less deadly, and treatable illnesses like the common cold and flu. The hospitals would be completely overwhelmed with cases of COVID-19 then what happens? People with other diseases or from accidents, or whatever, don't get treatment fast enough and THEY DIE TOO.
I am not the smartest person in any given room, but jesus christ! just use some goddamned logic. Again, they get no logic because their main sources of "news" are right wing sources (I guarantee it).
What needs to happen is that there needs to be a way of combatting Right Wing Media if we don't do that, then we will continue to have these kind of results.
