How many guaranteed seats do we have? I have searched and can't find anything. I know many races haven't been called.
As of now there are 30 seats that haven't been called!

(16,083 posts)The fact is, Trump being on the ballot turned out all the assholes who don't bother with midterms.
They adore him, the worship him.

(2,860 posts)Donna Shalala & Debbie Mucarsel-Powell both appear to have lost their races, but there will probably be recounts. Those are the only ones I know. I live a little further north and Ted Duetch is my rep. He won.

(14,853 posts)... other than Biden/Harris winning. Not even close otherwise.
My guess is that many voters around here picked Biden/Harris, but didn't even bother with the other candidates.
Edit: Some of the elections were fairly close after I looked again, but it's like I suspected. Trump received almost the same number of votes of other Republican candidates, but Biden/Harris received significantly more votes than other Democrats. Conclusion: Some people only voted for Biden/Harris in the Presidential election around here. Ugh.

(666 posts)Even in NYC the Dems are saying it really hurt, dems came out in droves for Biden/Harris...then voted R bec of defund the police hear in NY...obviously down in TX parts and Miami Dade it did effect the ticket. Socialism is all BS and they shouldve emphasized that Trump wants to be like a Castro and did business with him..socialism is the boogeyman word...but defund the police was just a stupid slogan that really really hurt. Conference calls with Dems and the Dems in NYC are pissed at the defund the police people....Saying we lost numbers because people in very very very safe Blue districts endangered pro cop/Pro police reform dems bec they had to defend against defund the police (yeah yeah i know thats not what it really means, but Americans dont care about nuance)..oh and AOC reiterated "defund means defund"..resulting in less dems in power...have we not learned from 2000, 2010 and 2016? This is how we lose power and end up with a judicial system that can screw us. NYC dems said huge swaths of liberal dems in their districts crossed over because of this issue. Self inflicted wounds! Tom Souzzi a great rep by me on LI is losing (he should prevail with absentee ballots) in a race he had no business even being in a dogfight because of this...and all over NY too..other than the deep blue districts...easy wins were turned into dogfights. Lets me smarter moving forward...run on healthcare, jobs and police reform...not defund the police, lets retire the slogan!

(53,759 posts)And having prominent Dems calling themselves democratic socialists is not smart either as it's so off-putting to millions of Americans, as shown by the House seat losses in Florida.
We have to be smarter. Three generations of voters, the Greatest generation, Boomers and GenXers were schooled on the toxicity of socialism, the iron curtain, failed communist collectives, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, the Cuban missile crisis, fallout shelters, etc. Many of those voters outgrew that knee jerk anti-socialism reaction but millions haven't and any candidate who doesn't understand that has the depth of knowledge about their own country as that of a sidewalk puddle.
