Evacuations were underway in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon after bomb threats were called in to an area near where ballot counting is taking place.

Philadelphia police said that security in the Fashion District received two calls from the same individual saying that a bomb was going to go off.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Fashion District Philadelphia has been evacuated after bomb threats were called in on Friday afternoon. Philadelphia police say Fashion District security received two calls from the same person that a bomb was going to go off.

Security has evacuated the mall at 901 Market St. in Center City.

SEPTA has stopped all trains at the station.

The Fashion District Philadelphia is near the Pennsylvania Convention Center where ballot counting is ongoing and where supporters of Joe Biden and President Donald Trump are gathering.

Police found no explosives or any other suspicious devices at the Fashion District after they searched the building Friday due to a bomb threat at the mall, which partially borders the Convention Center, where votes for the presidential election were being counted.

Police said K-9 officers had completed the search by 3 p.m. and found nothing inside the mall. The investigation began earlier in the afternoon, when police said mall security received two calls from a person claiming “a bomb was going to go off in the Fashion District.” Police and security officers began forcing people to evacuate ...

As police investigated the possible threat, Commissioner Danielle Outlaw and District Attorney Larry Krasner held a news conference inside the Convention Center, at which Krasner said a separate crime nearby Thursday night — the arrest of two men carrying guns outside the vote counting — did not appear to have any connection to any larger effort to cause disruption.

In June they arrested some group that was using short dynamite to blow up ATMs and make off with the loot.

It's a major city, anything can be going on at any point in time.

About the only group that made bomb threats that were real bomb threats, was the IRA. Otherwise, people who plant bombs, just do so and don't bother to inform anyone.

29. I used to work at National Airport in Washington DC.

In the mid-seventies we endured a series of bomb threats. The first half dozen or more times the airport was dutifully shut down, we all went outside, and a search with dogs was made. Never anything. Sometimes it was just someone wanting to cause confusion, other times (and these started getting caught) were people who were running late for a flight and figured this was a good way to make sure it didn't take off before they got there.
