Then it's a free-for-all in their minds thereafter. Truth and facts aren't really pursued by them anymore.

Edit: And the irony is that some of those people probably pursued truth at some point, but in a demanding black-and-white manner instead of accepting the reality of a probabilistic world -- "most likely" wasn't sufficient for them, so they stopped trying.
