Sorry, but I'm not "listening" to fascists.

Over the last few days, while several states were still counting mail-in ballots, there was this growing charge on mainstream media (even on MSNBC and CNN crowing on and on) to try to determine why the Democratic message is not connecting or resonating with rural America and white, working class voters. Sorry, but these voters, by and large, overwhelmingly voted for an openly bigoted fascist, and I don't care about connecting any message with them.

These folks, over the last 50 years, have made it their life's mission to castigate, demean, and belittle any ounce of progress that has been attempted in this country. Rolling the reel back to the election of Richard Nixon, they have been relentless in trying to roll back the country's clock, and they openly cheered it on, while voting for people who were picking their pockets left and right.

Nixon's "Law and Order" campaign of 1972? Sure, sounds great to have law enforcement crack the skulls of minorities and hippies. Meanwhile, Nixon was the President to normalize trade relations with China to start sucking their jobs away from them and decimate the small towns that they never wanted to leave.

Reagan's "Morning in America" in 1980? Sure, sounds great to start railing against Civil Rights by launching a campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi (the site of the death of three Civil Rights workers), even though Reagan started the practice of union busting, and many of their revered Republican state and federal legislators started to support "Right to Work" laws, which prevented many of them from unionizing and earning higher wages. Oh, and did I mention totally flipping the tax code to ensure that those wealthy "job creators" who were continuing to offshore their jobs were able to keep even MORE of their money.

Bush's 1988, Lee Atwater, "Willie Horton" boogeyman to install fear into them, while the Savings and Loan bust occurs and folks were running amok in corruption with Iran Contra.

Bush II's tax cuts and continued deregulation of the financial service industry, which they openly cheered, until, of course, the 2008 recession.

Trumps tax cuts to "Make America Great Again," which have caused Amazon to pay a grand total of $0 in taxes, while they can't even grasp the fact that they are paying, on average, more taxes than their dear leader? OK, as long as we ban the Muslims, let the cops kill with impunity, and hate any minority group living, while telling the liberal snowflakes, "Fuck your feelings!" Even better, let's usher in the Proud Boys, David Duke, Steve Bannon, and Stephen Miller, cage some kids and separate them from their parents and get some forced hysterectomies going.

Sorry, but this is the level of thinking of "rural, working class" America, and I'm not interested in connecting any message with these folks (and I know them, because I'm from rural America). They have shown us, for the last 50 years, that they aren't interested in intellect, nuance, fairness, and that they will sacrifice their own economic well-being to support fascism (evidenced in their support of a fascist that has allowed over 240,000 Americans, and counting, to die from a pandemic, which has resulted in an economic pandemic).

in order to succeed. I’m not worried about the centrist hand wringing. We’re either going to succeed as a party or our two party system is going to fragment. I think it’ll be the first ... for a lot of reasons.
