(46,176 posts)Mother, sister, daughter - what a dog. They're so smart & loving and too often they're the boss! It was the best work I ever did, training and living life with a fuzzy haired Shep.

(38,057 posts)...because after four years of a howler monkey and a pack of baboons, the White House is going to be pretty damn "interesting" that way.

(16,351 posts)Trumps attitude about dogs was just one more bit of evidence that he is hopeless.

(39,698 posts)and in the dog rescue realm, a failed foster family is the BEST thing in the world, bark none.

(1,725 posts)..me and my Mom - after we adopted a wonderful rescue Labradoodle and Dal - were asked to go down to Cincinnati and save two 1-year-old Dals who were in a shelter. Our first and only foster attempt.
One of the soon-to-be-owners was a co-worker, very nice man, but the other guy just wanted to breed the girl. No matter how many times I told that jerk that rescues were always fixed before adoption, no breeding possible, he still nagged me to bring her back unfixed. Just before we drove down to get them, he broke off the deal, so the girl Dal would not have a home.
When we got down there, we discovered that the boy had been spoiled and played with constantly, while the girl - so badly abused, including sexually, that she had been yanked out of a house by the police - had been isolated in her cage and never let out because she was "hostile." We told them she no longer had a potential owner, so we asked, what happens to her if we leave her? "She goes down next Saturday." Not going to happen. We took her home in the hopes that we'd find her an owner, a family. When we got home and she saw our two dogs, she panicked, jumped up into my arms, and shivered uncontrollably. Broke my heart. My two dogs, though, accepted her and welcomed her and they became a family.
The 3 possible adopters sucked, to me, I didn't like their attitudes. So I was a foster FAIL.
So Chloe found a home.
We loved her crazy neurotic destructive defiant loving adoring little self for 14 more years. When she passed at age 15, it broke my heart. And she did bite me, a harmless nip several times, on the ear lobe, especially when we stayed at our Cavs games or visited relatives for too long - pissed her off and I paid for it.
Bless her sweet soul.
