(152 posts)The federal anti-nepotism law, 5 U.S.C. § 3110 generally prohibits a federal official, including the President, from appointing, promoting, or recommending for appointment or promotion any relative of the official to any agency or department over which the official exercises authority or control.
Even if President Biden were able to avoid the anti-nepotism law by appointing Dr. Biden without compensation, its a bad idea and our President should strive to set an example. Dr. Biden can take up the issue of education and contribute as First Lady.
Before the protests start, this is one of the many Presidential norms that Trump shattered. He went and got a really questionable opinion from his justice department. Application of the Anti-Nepotism Statute to a Presidential Appointment in the White House Office. That doesnt make it right, and Biden should refrain.
