and Clock Tower to its former glory? One on the great wonders of American architecture. Trump got his small rancid hands on it thanks to rampant privatization, i.e. the theft of our public treasure. It ought to be reclaimed.

(37,158 posts)It overlooks the headquarters of the FBI. Lets just say that it would be a prime place for persons from certain countries to rent rooms so that they could have a good vantage point for surveillance equipment.

(130,865 posts)The govt, which owns it, tried to find uses for a long time, and they/we probably hoped 'trumpworld' would make it useful.
'Rampant privatization' not relevant, imo; I suspect everyone in the building paid rent, some more successfully than others. ((I worked across the street from the place for almost 20 years, and noticed the changes; had lunches there often, brought my kids there to the candy store, bought my wedding shoes there.))

(4,572 posts)There were plenty of government offices in that building. I don't know the history of or reason for the mall-type stuff that was on the ground floor. Partly to provide convenient lunch, etc. for people who worked there, I suppose.
