He's a funny man. This is not very funny.

(10,570 posts)His past comedy sketches have been homophobic and transphobic and hes never apologize for it. As a gay man who is seeing people suffer from this type of rhetoric I refuse to watch him.

(15,078 posts)But I didn't like him. Made a joke about Darling Freddie Mercury and AIDS. That was terrible.
Now I know.

(41,959 posts)It did seem like a 60s routine, edgy, a little scary, and yet poignant. The setup with the suit and cigarette was the same. The language was similar.
It made me uncomfortable in a remarkable way.

(41,959 posts)People are afraid of truth in a comedy suit. So far Im enjoying the riskiness, and they seem to be too.
I am loving Chapelle. This is what SNL was when I was a kid.

(11,002 posts)Chappelle fell flat on a few jokes, but I liked his monologue a lot better than Bill Burrs, or John Mulaney's (and I love Mulaney). The Aunt Jemima sketch was great. After that, not so much.

(16,352 posts)It was very interesting. Reminded me a little bit of Bill Hicks, which Im sure a lot of people complaining about Chappelle would also not have liked.

He was excellent as always. He makes people uncomfortable and we need to feel that.

(12,904 posts)He has a great talent for humor that makes you think. Sometimes I dont get some of his jokes for a year. He can ask you to look inside...sometimes deep inside, where its not always so comfortably funny.
I think hes a legend.

(1,848 posts)Comedians are rarely as socially relevant as Chapelle. He does not mince words, and I absolutely love him for it, latent homophobia excepted.
