the two GA Senate seats will go to Dems. It would be a new ballgame.

I'm glad we have Stacy Abrams on our side!!

But as in most things planned by this inept administration, it didn't work out.
Another one being, he's a one-term LOSER.

Even with Trump defeated Mitch has been pitching the cutting of SS and Medicare to offset the revenue losses of the Trump Tax cut. (I have a hard time believing that we didn't hear more about cuts in SS in this election as the Trump budget showed big cuts in both).

(5,505 posts)I would campaign on the fact that ACA being overturned is a done deal. And it's going to have to be replaced. The only way to do that is to have a majority in the Senate.
I think they need volunteers to put on masks and go door to door.

(7,480 posts)I suspect even more GA voters are going to jump ship over to the Blue Team the second time around. They saw the celebrations in the streets and are going to want to be a part of it.

(32,100 posts)Most will just jump ship and stay home. Trump isn't on the ticket, so a lot of them won't be motivated to get out and vote again in January, except maybe for the few that HATE Kelly Loeffler.

(13,079 posts)and further solidify Dems resolve to expand the courts to rebalance it. Heck, we can place term limits on their sorry butts.
Roberts had better tread very carefully here.

(639 posts)Term limits on all federal judicial and legislative offices would be very popular and could easuly pass as a Constitutional Amendment.
A dozen years. Hell, start with 12 for everything.
Federal Judges.... may serve one 12 year term, staggared like the Senate to replace justices.
Legislative...no more than 12 years. Four Congressional terms and Two Senate terms.
Expand the federal appealate courts to hold 12 members per bench.

(13,079 posts)There's a problem with your theory. Although the supreme court hearings on the ACA case starts very soon, the actual decision won't be announced until late spring, well after Biden is inaugurated in January. So it's unlikely the court case will have an impact on the senate run-off races.
That said, a hell of a lot can happen between now and early January when the run-offs happen. In particular, the pandemic is exploding almost exponentially. So the country is going to be a different condition then from that alone. So who knows, the run-off races might be winnable.

(639 posts)it was to highlight the lifetime terms, and career politicians.
SCOTUS cases that originate at SCOTUS are very, very rare.
Almost every case that SCOTUS accepts has gone through the federal appellate courts, which often have argued all the aspects and challenges; like standing to file a lawsuit, that's a legislative question not one the courts can answer, etc.
I promoted term limits, which gives ample time for a federal justice to impart their own Constitutional ideology ( originalists vs fluids) within a 12 year period.
The legislative term limits afford both parties to promote candidates that want to move forward, and then have the opportunity to do so. Career pols usually have the same mindset, even if society, the economy has changed significantly over a decade or more.
Americans, since day one, have opposed lifetime jobs as similar to the divine right of a monarch,
Term limits would not stop anything or anyone from being successful in one of those lifetime jobs.
I totaly agree that SCOTUS opinions on ACA will likely not come until the last week of the SCOTUS term, which is late June 2021.
I think they hold back on quick decisions, to allow legislatures to fix a problem, thereby making the opinion moot.
