(7,006 posts)Alex Trebek -- the revered and beloved "Jeopardy!" host since 1984, whose calm but witty presence was must-see television for millions of Americans -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
A "Jeopardy!" spokesperson tells TMZ, "Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends."
The TV icon died Sunday surrounded by friends and family at his home. Alex had been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since announcing the news back in March 2019. He immediately started chemo after the diagnosis, but made no plans to retire and continued hosting his game show ... as impressively as ever.

(10,162 posts)RIP Alex. Condolences to his wife and family.
He has really been a part of my daily life for decades, and I'm not alone! Dinnertime will never be the same for me and our family, including the grandkids.
My dad and I always watched the show in the 60's with Art Fleming. I loved it so much, I went to NY at 20 y/o and sat through 3 tapings! I met Don Pardo, too!
When Alex took over in the 80's, after some bumps in the show's road, he was an instant hit! We loved him! He was even a guest star on cheers when Cliff Clavin blew it on the show.
He was also in White Men Can't Jump, as himself. I will really miss this guy.

(25,489 posts)I know...but it was a different era. Gene Rayburn changed the MO for game shows and Trebek was a product of that. Not dissing anyone btw.

I enjoy Jeopardy and appreciate all the years of entertainment he gave.
