Prior to Joe's picking Kamala, there were many DUers who wanted Susan Rice to be the VP. She is incredibly qualified, but has never run in a campaign AFAIK. I had always responded that SoS was uniquely suited for her.

diplomat, one former president, and one former small-city major (!) whose name became famous because he ran for president?

Profound ignorance of real possibilities is my problem, but for fun I'll offer Fareed Zakariah. I find it very impressive how he always knows how to pronounce the names of the various heads of states and dignitaries discussed on his show, and where their countries are. And for spitting in Putin's face and making his nightmare come truth, as well as top experience, Sec Hillary Clinton.

I just went and grabbed Rice, Chris Coons, Antony Blinken, Chris Murphy and Williams Burns from Politico and Vox quoting each other. Not that I put a lot of faith in media groupthink.
