(27,543 posts)Many decades ago, I went to see a revival of Camelot, with Richard Burton returning to the role of King Arthur. However, the day before the performance, health problems caused him to withdraw from the tour, and his role was taken by his understudy (William Parry, as the answer to a trivia question). Unfortunately, while Parry could speak and sing the lines written for Burton, follow the blocking arranged for Burton, and wear the costumes designed for Burton, he wasnt Burton, and the void in personality at the center of the production dragged the whole experience down to a forgettable level. The same, Im pretty sure, will be the result if Teddy-Boy Cruz decides to appoint himself the understudy to play Mad King Donald.
