And a guest brought a great point when the host brought up that trump voters are blue collar workers who have been left behind economically. She said that most blue collar workers wouldnt be able to afford a boat to participate in the Trump boat parades or a big expensive truck to participate in the Trump trains.

(6,212 posts)I don't get it. I still say most of his base are racist and that's the driving force.

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."
It's harsh. It's not PC. But it's true.

(6,212 posts)that nonsense when he said he saved the suburbs for the women. All over affordable housing. It was so obvious where he was going with that. It made me sick.

(1,040 posts)... Trumpers drive HUGE trucks with multiple BIG flags (not cheap). Others were driving Escalades, Land Rovers and other pricey SUVs. There were a few classic cars, Corvettes, etc. These were all held on Saturday, and most struggling people I know have 2nd jobs on the weekends to make ends meet.
I'm not saying he doesn't have a following among poor people, but by-in-large the folks I have seen have plenty of money and aren't worried about being "left behind" economically.
Just my opinion.

(31,261 posts)The reality is he allows them to feel important, even if they are dirt poor.
Dont let luxury cars fool you, a lot of everyday people rent luxury cars because it allows them to get into a new car every four years or so. It isnt like they are dropping $70,000-$150,000 for a new vehicle.

(25,816 posts)The very first car I ever owned I financed through my credit bureau where I worked. Ever after, every single car I have ever owned was paid for in cash. And none of them have been huge trucks or SUVs, and I've NEVER understood the appeal of them. For me a car is something that gets you from place to place. That's it. I have many more things to spend my money on than a big car of some kind. Maybe that's why I am as financially secure as I am. Hmmm. That's a novel concept. Spend less on things like a big honking car, more on saving and investing. I wonder what that looks like 30 or 40 years down the road.
Oh. I know. It looks like financial security. Huh. Who would have thought it.

(296 posts)behind. They can thank Republicans for the last 40 years starting with Ron Reagan and his anti-labor, union busting, trickle down economics for their current plight. He also cut taxes for the rich and raised them on the working class. Bush II cut taxes for the rich and started two immoral wars that have cost us trillions, and of course Don the Con that has screwed them every way possible. But, if they are so willfully stupid to ignore these facts, nothing the Democrats do now is going to appease them.

(31,261 posts)Well off Whites have ALWAYS victimized poor Whites, but used various scapegoats, first American Indians, then African Americans, now anyone who isnt White (even highly educated Asian professionals face discrimination). As long as the poor Whites have some POC to be resentful toward, they will always support republicans.
The modern reality is that unless a person has an education in an increasingly small numbers of fields, robots and AI has replaced them and will complete the job within 15 years. What will happen is people will have a harder time of making ends meet.
