By John Bowden - 11/08/20 09:26 PM EST
President-elect Joe Biden will personally call on governors around the country to enact mask mandates in their states once taking office next year, NBC News first reported on Sunday.
A Biden campaign official told the network that governors who resist the incoming president's requests will see Biden pressure mayors of cities in their respective states to enact mandates at the local level, potentially setting him up for confrontations with Republican governors around the U.S.

Kemp has consistently tried undermine and sabotage mask mandates in blue cities and towns across GA.
UGA needs to crack down on the partying Greeks and on those bar owners who live in red counties outside of Athens. How about no more SEC football super spreader games here in Athens and elsewhere.

Gov. Kevin Stitt has issued a statement Saturday afternoon after OSDH reported the drastic increase in new cases. That statement is as follows:
It is clear that this virus continues to spread through rural and urban communities across Oklahoma and the United States.
Throughout the history of our state, Oklahomans have taken pride in caring for our neighbors during times of trouble. Now, more than ever, I am asking each Oklahoman to do the right thing and protect their families, neighbors and those who are most vulnerable.
Keep washing your hands frequently, watch your distance from others, and wear a mask when social distancing isnt possible or visiting indoor public places. You have heard me say these things before, but we need everyone to take these actions seriously. They work.
Watching your distance also means being careful about how long youre in crowded places and how you gather with your friends and family. You can spread this virus to someone you love even if you arent showing symptoms, so please take extra care around family members who are older or have compromised immune systems.

(10,951 posts)Taking these steps together as a state will allow us to continue to keep our lives operating as close to normal as possible. Oklahomans pulled together back in April so we could safely reopen our economy, and I am asking for that same unified effort once again to slow the spread of this virus and keep Oklahomans safe.
Stitt has resisted issuing a statewide face mask mandate despite several leading medical officials in the state calling for him to enact such a mandate to slow COVIDs surge and minimize the numbers of deaths caused by the virus.
We can continue to go along and just keep waiting and hoping that we get a vaccine out, or we can do more aggressive things to slow the spread of the disease and to save peoples lives, Dr. Dale Bratzler, the University of Oklahomas Chief COVID Officer, previously said.
