CA Gov. Gavin Newsom has to choose Kamala Harris' replacement. Should he just ask Kamala Harris?

'A Vexing Decision': Calif. Governor Mulls Who Will Replace Harris In Senate

Asked on Election Day about the possibility of choosing a successor, Newsom insisted he was not looking forward to it.

"I mean, honestly, I'm not even exaggerating. There's a hundred chores that I'd prefer. I'm not kidding," Newsom joked.

"This is not something that I wish even on my worst enemy, because you create enemies in this process you know, not just friends. And it's a vexing decision. It's a challenging one," Newsom said.

Could Governor Newsom just ask Kamala Harris whom she recommends as her replacement? Would this be a good idea? Why, or why not?

I am sure that he will get plenty of input from his advisors and those seeking the posting. The Vice President-Elect has a bunch on her plate with which to deal.

until we have an election and voters can chose.

And while we are at it I think Feinstein should also retire so we have 2 open seats to fill.

Feinstein can give Lindsey Graham a hug on her way out. I'd like to see Adam Schiff and Katie Porter in the Senate. They would be great for California and the entire country.

Id prefer he make the decision he decision himself. If he asks Harris, he’ll feel obligated, and that’s the precedent I’d like to avoid. If Leningrad Lindsey should fall ill and retire, I sure as hell don’t want him having any say in who takes his place, not that a Republican governor in South Carolina is going to pick another Fritz Hollings to replace him.

If he asks her and does not select someone she recommends, He has insulted her. He will have plenty of unsolicited advice. The VP Elect should surely chime in if she has someone in mind, but if he asks her and then picks someone else, it is an affront to her. He

Nothing wrong with asking, but that should be only a part of his decision. I'm sure
there are many factors that I'm unaware of. I'm sure it is a vexing decision.
But a Democrat right? (kidding)

Is there any speculation that Gavin will choose himself to serve out Kamala's Senate term?

He's only 2 years into his current term, so I doubt he's going to give it all up for a Senate seat. He can run for a second term after that, which I believe he will.

But if he was going to ask anyone, he should ask the people who made her a senator in the first place. And that would be me and the millions of other California voters. But we’ll get our chance soon enough.
