for that Orange thing. White people benefit disproportionately from the way our society is built.

It is about race. It is about white people being upset that they won't be the 'default setting' for much longer.

and I recognize that the majority of white people (look at the numbers) are not willing to let go of racism.

If you live in a place where there are more decent ones than not, you are lucky. I live in a place where the vast majority of people are racist and so much more.

If you aren't part of the Trumpkin majority (among white people), then you aren't the audience for this man's tweet. He's talking about the MAGATs who we're all supposed to be nice to because their orange leader lost and they are sad. No sympathy from me for those people.

he's talking explicitly about reaching out to those who voted for Trump who are, arguably, on the side of wanting to continue his oppression as a Black man and saying "fuck that", which is where I am as well.

If you aren't a person who voted for that, you aren't part of the problem he's speaking about.

It's not just the Trumpies that are unwilling to see. They are just less polite about it. The rest of use just prefer not to talk about it. It's "uncomfortable" and, of course, it isn't about "me". It's about those 'other' people. We really need to stop doing this.

If we keep pretending and talking like it isn't, then they win. It was only a few years ago when 'everyone' including the Supreme Court was saying that racism was no longer an issue. Ya, these last 4 years have proven how right that was.

At least for the foreseeable future we must never let race get shoved under the carpet again. We must learn to talk about it and to start dealing with it openly and honestly. The 1619 Project was a great start.

"Being a good human" is vague enough that it means different things to different people. It puts the burden of systemic change on individuals and how they act and feel about themselves. It does nothing to address the white supremacy this country is built on or that is inherent in its systems. It's a feel-good bumper sticker that people who benefit from white supremacy can use to gaslight those it oppresses. Race is a social construct, and it's the foundation of much of our nation's history. Ignoring it does nothing to address the damage done by it or rebuild the systems that work to uphold the concept of it.

Child, have you ever hear of truth and reconciliation?
Do you think they start with erasing the past? That just ain't how healing works.
This idea is seriously retrograde

i don’t imagine they will be changed by the election much or even try to be nicer or nonracist because they lost
sorry that’s just me

Their leaders are not even recognizing the election results

Maybe people who actually know real trump voters among family and friends can work on healing amongst themselves and heal those relationships since they are close to a local MAGAt realm anyway
Maybe they all can benefit from each other and no one will require any deep introspection on what happened because they are connected

They voted repeatedly to end my healthcare, my Social Security, to cut down my forest, poison my water, to starve my neighbors, to torture children, to force their paranoia down my throat while pretending it is religious faith, to turn the police into thugs and to destroy our government.

As a character in one of my favorite British TV shows once said of the Tory party, "It's mercy we haven't hung them yet". While I'm not looking for trees or shopping for rope I see no reason to temper justice on their behalf. We may have to live next to them but that is no reason to accept their evil fantasy as a mere difference of opinion.

They wanted me and mine and all those I care for dead. They voted to make it happen. They haven't changed their mad views and I have no reason to trust they will. Not until Rupert Murdoch and all his works are exposed for the manipulating, lying, rat-bastards they are. Not until Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller and Mitch McConnell are wearing prison issue orange, having admitted their intentional perfidy and multiple crimes against humanity. Not until Charles Koch is rotting in Leavenworth prison.

Not until they apologize for their angry threats, their violent cultism and for waving their damn guns in my face at every Effing opportunity. It is a mercy indeed I haven't done a full leg sweep on the lot of them. They waved live grenades in all of our faces and then acted as if it was their right and privilege to do it. I don't propose to give them the opportunity to repeat that.

We all may be Americans and entitled to a fair and just governance. So be it. I expect them to learn how to be patriotic and tolerant. I don't imagine for one minute they will actually do it without a great deal of deprogramming.

I work with republicans. You don’t have to listen too long to realize all their anger is people of color doing well. Not all I know. There are some who are not racist and are traditional republicans. But most of them? Black folks. That’s their beef. That some where there is a black person doing better than them.
