He's really a nice, helpful neighbor to us. But his rant on Facebook today has me worried about his mental health.
First, his words "Mailing absentee ballot applications to everyone on the voter registration list is a joke. Those lists are notoriously corrupt with the dead. Those who have moved and out of date data. Vote harvesting...come on."
And HE VOTED BY ABSENTEE BALLOT! And was pleased when he checked on the progress of his ballot!
Another douzy: "Actually. Republican checkers were thrown out; saw the video. Checkers kept 50 feet away where they can't see anything. Can't explain dumps of votes. Allowed violations of state law to extend deadlines, not check signatures, smudged postmarks - sure no problems."
Is this the "party line" for Republican losers this time? Anybody else repeating this story line?

(13,088 posts)They have all be debunked, most by republicans in the very states where all this
cheating was suppose to have happened.
The newest conspiracy has something to do with a super computer changing vote tallies.
They are insane.
They are cult members and can no longer think rationally.
P.S. I am not on Facebook or Twitter. I heard these conspiracies discussed numerous times
on numerous days on CNN and MSNBC.

(63,893 posts)He must be beside himself with anger.
What i don't understand is how a very moral, religious guy like my neighbor could even faintly respect a man like Trump? And he's not stupid, either.

(8,052 posts)a week or so ago about how supposedly "nice friendly" people could support Trump--and the gist of it was, Trump voters CAN be nice and kind people, but only selectively so. They carefully pick and choose the targets of their kindness and goodwill. Their decency is 100% situational or tribal. If you are the right sort of person, you get their good side, and maybe that's all you'll ever see. You are seeing his other side now.

(21,719 posts)I've had them, unasked, shovel snow out of my drive, mowed my lawn when I was in the hospital, check up on me if they don't see me out of my house for a while, were amazingly thoughtful and sympathetic when my family members passed.
These are the people I would love to see if my car was broken down on the highway.
But, they see me as one of them.
When the conversation turns to "others", they scare me.

(8,052 posts)It's especially pronounced if you're a white male with a military background, as my husband has found. He gets treated well by R-wingers and MAGAts initially because they always assume he's "one of them", and they spout off with pretty blatant freeper/racist shit until he objects.

(63,893 posts)found the car keys in wife's purse and drove away with their late model car. Police haven't found the car yet. These two marauders actually drove their car across our front lawn in escaping.
I think he hasn't been all right since that happened. It's a scary thing and I couldn't offer enough solace to him for having to go through that.
I am making a donation at xmas time to our community foundation where they have a memorial fund for a little daughter they lost soon after her birth. I feel so sorry for both of them. They have two wonderful kids now who often take our trash barrels down for pickup day. They are like the ideal neighbors. So I can't figure this out, except that he is still in shock from the home invasion. I know I would be.

(53,410 posts)It sounds like he and his wife werent home. Its actually more than scary. Its terrifying!
Knowing how I would feel at my age I think it would affect my peace of mind profoundly. Maybe even permanently. Its really difficult to feel so vulnerable.

(63,893 posts)He had called police. They responded very quickly. But the two guys had taken off in the neighbors car, across our front lawn. Neither my husband or I awakened. But I saw the tire marks ocross our lawn.
It could have been us. Or anyone else. I dunno why their house was chosen.
Last I spoke to him the police had not found their car.
This was a brazen crime. Our neighborhood is safe. We've never had such a brazen crime like this here and we've lived here about 30 years.

(53,410 posts)The thought that theyre out there feeling theyre getting away with something is horrible.
Maybe this explains his apparent overreaction about the votes. Men take things like this much harder than women do. I understand that. I get it.

(14,488 posts)until positively and officially proven true. That included all social media. In other words, question everything and don't believe anything nor verified.
That would make his life much simpler.
You might also volunteer to help him try to verify (or debunk) some of rumors just to get him in the habit.
Remind him that there are very evil people planting a flood of false information on social media and internet news sites and blogs every day. Many of these are foreign actors that simply are paid to keep the American public in confusion and in a state of suspicion of every other citizen, and especially those not in your political bubble. They mostly want Americans to be divided and therefore easier to control.
Good luck!........

(63,893 posts)I wonder if his wife has him on meds. She is not so dogmatic in her politcs. She is locally well known because she's a media figure on our ABC affiliate station. So her face is well known to people. I don't think she wants him to lose it now, when she's making out very well on local media and earning some bigger bucks. He has a job somewhere so he has to go to work during the day and can't spend too much time on Facebook.
We are laying low. Don't want to embarrass the family. Their kids are great and help hubby out with some minor projects around our property.

(54,302 posts)Republicans win--all is right with the world.
Democrats win--the devil has been playing in our kindergarten sandbox.
There is no in-between, and there is no way in the world that the Democrats had a more appealing message. What, after all, could be a more appealing message than four more years of Donald Trump in the Oval Office (or on the golf course)? That is a question to which they have no answer, and therein lies the problem.
