Senator McConnell Says President Trump is "Within His Rights" to Challenge Election Results in Court
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell defends President Trump's legal actions in courts across the country and says he is "within his rights" to do so. He also says there was no meaningful foreign interference in the election and accuses Democrats of "hysteria" on the issue over the last four years. The Republican leader also highlights seat losses by House Democrats in last week's elections.

(8,052 posts)don't find it alarming on its face. At least the part about Trump being within his rights. The rest of it is blather.

(15,124 posts)say "some Washington Democrats" had wasted four years making false accusations of Russian meddling?
I switched channels after two minutes out of disgust, but I believe the above were stated in addition to a shameless defense of Trump's silly and hopeless court challenges.
That is "hewing close to the facts"? What you call "blather" some call lies. I am one of them.

(8,052 posts)made a non-statement about Trump suing, at least from what I'm reading above. Of course Trump can seek legal action, saying so doesn't confer legitimacy to it. He's straddling the line here.

(675 posts)If Trump and his supporters want to waste their time, money, and energy suing everyone and everything over the election results they can. They are free to make their case in court. That's their right as Americans. However, like most of us, I highly doubt McConnell thinks Trump will succeed or that any of this is a good idea. He sounds like he is keeping his public thoughts as neutral as possible because he doesnt want to provoke a reaction from the MAGA crowd.

(40,209 posts)Trump is very unstable and it could be worse than we imagine. I am not trying to give McConnell any slack, I think he is an asshole. But they may be placating him until they can convince him to accept he lost.
I don't know if that is the case, but it seems that they are trying to keep Trump from having a complete breakdown and that they are buying time.
On January 20, 2021 Joe Biden is going to become the 46 President of The United States and everyone knows it.

(82,849 posts)Even though the Trump administration has effectively denied the rights of thousands to have their claims for asylum adjudicated, nobody's blocking the courthouse door against Trump. So that straw man you've set up won't hunt, Mitch.
