Even if Democrats sweep Georgia. Sigh...he even uses Republican framing, he is going to be a pain.

(21,634 posts)Had he moved to the right, he would have had a much better chance. But alas, he stood strong and didn't back down from his beliefs, so I can't go too hard on him.

We also need to give him the leeway to do shit like this, I could easily see him being our Jim Jeffords

(12,526 posts)We have no choice but to give him leeway. We need all the numbers we can get.

(10,599 posts)I had heard that the Vice President is not allowed to break a tie for either of those issues, so the Democrats would need 51, in addition to any Democratic Senators like Manchin who won't go along with the change(s).
A lopsided Supreme Court is something we may have to live with for a long, long time, unfortunately, and it appears getting rid of the filibuster won't be any easier.
Fiendish Thingy
(22,460 posts)The filibuster is related to the rules of the senate, so not sure what Harriss role is in that case.
In It to Win It
(12,526 posts)I'm open to being corrected on that.

(19,848 posts)The VP would still break a tie on a procedural vote.

The VP also breaks all tie votes. Presumably Harris would be the "aye" vote to enact the administration's bills.

This isnt right! The Republicans stole Obamas court pick and now we are stuck like this even if we get the senate!

(3,921 posts)and this is how he wins in a deep red seat. It is what is is. Sinema and Kelly likely would take the same position even though AZ is a purple state, it is on a knife's edge. If we win both GA seats those guys likely would take the same position. We need more solid blue seats and/or the purple states to trend bluer (like CO and VA did) to really get things done.

(3,282 posts)Would it be easier to pick up those two seats if we campaign on ending the filibuster and packing the court? That's probably why we don't have the senate already. The Republicans are going to run the entire campaign on those two issues and say we are too extreme to have unified power. Manchin eases that because moderate Georgians will look at this statement and say that it's safe to put democrats in power because they won't be able to do the stuff that scares them.
