November 9, 2020 at 7:47 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
Attorney General William Barr has authorized federal prosecutors across the U.S. to pursue substantial allegations of voting irregularities before the 2020 presidential election is certified, despite little evidence of fraud, CNBC reports.
Barrs action comes days after Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Trump and raises the prospect that Trump will use the Justice Department to try to challenge the outcome. It gives prosecutors the ability to go around longstanding Justice Department policy that normally would prohibit such overt actions before the election is formally certified.

So far, there are ZERO substantial allegations.
This is all to make trump feel better.

(11,009 posts)This is a nothing burger to made to look like he's doing something. From the CNBC article Goddard references:
"In a memo to U.S. attorneys, obtained by The Associated Press, Barr wrote that investigations may be conducted if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual State.
He said any allegations that clearly not impact the outcome of a federal election should be delayed until after those elections are certified and prosecutors should likely open so-called preliminary inquiries, which would allow investigators and prosecutors to see if there is evidence that would allow them to take further investigative measures.
Barr does not identify any specific instances of purported fraud in the memo."

(25,470 posts)If someone has made that assertion, they clearly don't understand the relationship.
There's nothing to trust. There's nothing he can do to override state laws. John Roberts has been quite clear that state legislatures determine election rules, not the courts. The same applies to Barr.

(3,282 posts)What has he actually ever done? Every investigation he's put out there has yielded nothing. The biggest thing he ever did was release a memo to blunt the Mueller Report.
This is the same, lip service for Trump so he can stay on the job a couple more months.

(11,949 posts)Telling his prosecutors what was already apparent. If there is substantial evidence of fraud it should be investigated. There is no evidence. The prosecutors are not partisan.
He does not want to get too far on trumps bad side. He is already hated by the left. If the entire trump mob turns on him he will end up the most hated man in America.
