It looks like Arpaio can't keep the truth shackled up in one of his tent prisons

It was a contentious day of heated testimony in the civil trial over the jail death of a diabetic Valley mother with two important witnesses, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his former Chief Deputy Dave Hendershott taking the stand.

Deborah Braillard, 46, died after being denied insulin and medical care during three days at a Maricopa County jail.

Time after time, lawyers for both sides had to huddle with the judge because of dozens of objections raised by Arpaio’s lawyers in response to questions asked by Braillard’s daughter’s attorney, Michael Manning.

The Braillard case could end up costing Maricopa County taxpayers millions.

Things include:

Former Deputy Chief Bill Williams who claimed he could not remember the answers to most of the questions posed to him by Braillard’s attorney.

Arpaio took the stand and he claimed to know very little about what happened to Deborah Braillard and he admitted that after she died, he didn’t order an investigation or ask any questions about her death. Arpaio acknowledged that there was no formal internal investigation launched into why detention officers never sought medical assistance for Braillard. Arpaio also confessed to the jury that he had not actually read a book that he co-authored in which he suggested that he wanted his jails to punish inmates.

Former Maricopa County Chief Deputy Dave Hendershott told the jury that he hoped detention officers would summon medical assistance for anybody as sick as Braillard was while in custody. But he admitted the jail went through periods of being dangerously understaffed.

Pay attention to that last part. How does a law enforcement system that gets national attention and the spotlight from the whole nation and especially tough on crime types be understaffed. What is really going on here?

asshole who would never have lasted ten minutes without the media enabling him. Every expo I've ever seen on Arpaio always seems to paint him in a glowing light and almost fawns over his "innovative" crime fighting approach. The only problem is there's nothing innovative about anything he does. Chain gangs, prison camps, striped uniforms, are all old school. We got rid of them because they were dehumanizing and ultimately did nothing to prevent crime.

Our so-called liberal media almost NEVER mentions the millions of dollars the Maricopa County Sheriff's office has paid out in lawsuits, never mentions the fact that while Phoenix is not one of American's largest cities, it has one of the largest correctional budgets because Arpaio locks up so many people on trivial things, and never mentions that while Arpaio says that his "reforms" prevent recidivism, the MCSO has one of the highest recidivism rates in the country.

Joe Arpaio-a fraud and a terrorist. And a perfect example of everything that is wrong with our media today.

Ron Paul sent out newletters in his name that were racist and fifteen years later he says he didn't really author them. When confronted with a book he supposedly co-wrote, Arpaio hasn't even read it. Either they profit of the ignorance of the people who would pay to hear anything they say, or they are chronic liars, either way it isn't flattering.

"Love him or hate him, he's unnecessarily costing you a shitload of money, people"

Doesn't fit on a sign, but there you have it.
