2. Republican state legislatures do not certify elections, the SOS does

At least in the Rust Belt states that matter.

I too suspect this is just a move to placate Trump, but if Barr’s agents were to take any action, I would hope the SOS would ignore it (since the counting in the Rust Belt states is complete, or nearly so), and certify the election results anyway. It may come down to a states’ rights argument.

5. There are several effects

First, hurting public confidence in the ability of the United States to hold an election. This is a bedrock function of any government, and public confidence in our nation's ability to conduct an election fairly and freely must be maintained in the face of specious claims made for the sole purpose of assuaging the butthurt of the election's loser.

Second, the transition. Ten weeks would seem to be ample time for the new administration to come in, but without the cooperation of the outgoing administration, a lot of time will be wasted in establishing the new order. Luckily, the new Biden administration will have the advantage of recent experience in the White House, but this transition time is still valuable and shouldn't be wasted in more pointless squabbling and stubborn resistance to reality. As lethal as that has been during the Trump administration, it will be more lethal at this time. Thousands more Americans will die on top of the quarter million we've already lost just so Donald Trump's feelings can come to terms with being told no.

Those are just two to start with, and they're pretty important for Americans who care about their country and their lives.

What has Barr actually accomplished so far? Nothing but smoke and mirrors. He is there to placate Trump. What was said was they would investigate allegations IF THEY RECEIVED THEM. There has to be some actual claim and evidence. There is no such thing, and someone claiming "people are saying" or that they "heard this or that" isn't evidence. Hell, even if they drag someone in who claims they saw/heard ten people talking about how they were voting for the 15th time today it wouldn't matter and it wouldn't result in the overturning of election results.

The election is over. The Trump team will play this "stolen election" nonsense as long as they can and then slink away.
