Dad joined the Marines the day after he graduated from high school, right at the end of World War II. He served in President Truman's Honor Guard. He was also a qualified Marksman. Dad lived by the Marine Code, for the rest of his life. He even (eventually) 'forgave' me for enlisting in the Navy, rather than the Marines. Hey, I know my limitations!
So to any other Marines or Marine families, out there, Semper Fi.

(26,260 posts)I think the Marines liked to think it was the other way around.
We had a poster, in Iceland, that read 'The Marines are looking for a few good men. The Navy already has them.' Dad got a kick out of that when he came up to visit me. Fortunately, there were LOTS of Marines for me to bring in to meet Dad. He was in his element, that's for sure.
