I hope to hell we never hear another word about working with the other side if the two January elections in Georgia push the Senate over to us.
I know Joe means well when he says he wants to work with the other side, and I also know that if we don't win the Senate, he will try to compromise just enough with those motherfuckers to get some things done. But if we do get control, and there's a pretty good chance we will, then we should ram every goddamn aspect of the most progressive and liberal agendas right through Congress and straight into law. No compromise and no mercy, not one iota. See how they like it. Fuck them!!

(7,911 posts)Our first priority should be country over party, and find common ground whenever and whenever we can. Job one is to heal the country. And I think Joe understands that.

(620 posts)They don't deserve it. We have played by their rules for twelve years now. Enough is enough.

(7,911 posts)ordinary American citizens who are conservative, then I disagree. We've got to win the confidence of all American citizens (or as many as we can) and let those American citizens stick it to the politicians. The best revenge on the RW pols is to have them voted out of office, and the best way to do that is get more and more people on our side. And the way to do that is to find common ground with them.

(25,426 posts)we're going to need GOP governors and other officials to support the plan to address it. That's not going to be easy, but it's necessary if the plan is going to be consistently applied. Without that, it's going to be much harder.
I also agree that Joe understands what needs to be done. He knows these people way better than most of us do.

(2,475 posts)So go all out progressive leftist socialist and make them squirm. If it is right for the people it is right, regardless of whether it makes repugs happy. Fuck 'em if they can't see it.

(7,911 posts)Who is going to end the hostilities. We know it won't be them. They aren't big enough. Joe IS big enough. It's time for the hostilities to end. Or else we'll end up like the Middle East (or those who still can't let go of the Civil War) passing down our grievances from generation to generation. Do you really want to teach your children and their children to divide and hate?

(22,236 posts)if we pushed through our progressive and liberal agendas. If we have control of Congress there would be no worrying about noses to cut off, period.

(7,911 posts)And then here we go again.
Better a long term solution by healing the country than a short term revenge that does more damage in the long run.

(22,236 posts)BTW, this is not some short term revenge. It's ONLY about standing tough and doing what is right, and if we gain control of the Senate, then the progressive and liberal agenda we push through WILL be the right thing for the country.

(2,475 posts)Just because repugs don't like it does not make being good to the citizens a hostile act.

(22,236 posts)I absolutely can't believe that some people here could possibly think that today's Republicans would ever agree to work with us. They will not.

(210 posts)it will be because the Republicans are lying. Democrats should reply to Republicans strong-arm tactics with a stronger arm. Democrats should pursue their goals without compunction or any concern for Republicans achieving theirs. Because almost by definition their goals will be evil promoting inequality, comforting the comfortable, shredding the social safety net, degrading the environment, defunding science, and promoting superstition, paranoia, and xenophobia. If you didnt embrace these goals, why would you bother being a Republican? And if the Republicans are treated with concern and caring, their take-home learning will be that they can run roughshod over Democrats and abuse the political system that they can erect one set of rules for themselves (might makes right) and hold Democrats to a higher standard (better angels) with absolutely no price. They will learn and probably are already convinced that hypocrisy pays. They will become more and more unhinged. Were seeing it already. Elections, they say fuhgettaboutit, we dont need no stinkin elections, we got your autocrat/boss/Fuehrer right here, ready to go for the next twenty years. Democrats need to reply to Republicans with a stronger arm.

(7,911 posts)And believe me there is more that we have in common as Americans that we we have dividing us. People need to be reminded of that because only the people can vote out the RW trouble makers. But they have to want stabililty and "normalcy" again. And they won't do that unless we win them over.

And ya, I agree with your post and just sick of being told to be empathetic, kind, compassionate or work with. They are not my enemy? Ya they are. And enemy of much of the U.S.

(9,942 posts)... I like Biden's tone - it's perfect. However, the actual work should be aggressive to the max, by whatever means necessary.

(26,044 posts)Notice that Joe Manchin and Dianne Feinstein have already said they'd refuse to end the filibuster, even if we capture the Senate.
That's the problem we've had all along -- we embrace a "big tent" notion that includes conservatives as well as liberals, while the Republicans press for an ideologically-pure right-wing party. While the notion may sound nice, it means that, even when we get the numerical majority, we're more often than not in still the ideological minority. That's why the ACA is what it is: even with a numeric "filibuster-proof majority" in 2009-2010, Obama still had to jettison the public option in order to keep the bill from being killed by a filibuster abetted by our own members.

(1,648 posts)Only to have it chainsawed off as soon as the Republican get a chance to screw over the Democratic Party for years.
The time has come for REPUBLICANS to grow the fuck up, get their shit together, and actually make the damn effort to work for the American People instead of using them as hostages. There was a clear mandate in this election with Biden's win and Republicans in the hot seat to move closer to the American People.
