Will Mitch McConnell be the designated driver?

The closed door meetings of Bill Barr and Gina Haspel and Mitch McConnell seems to indicate that something positive might be taking place.

Barr knows that Trump is attempting a coup with his fraud allegations and had been enlisted to aid that coup by extending DOJ's authority to investigate voting irregularities prior to certification of election results. But even Barr knows Trump is going too far and might destroy this country in the process. This probably constitutes a "bridge too far even for him."

But he can't go to Trump and tell him to accept the election results. He'd be fired by a tweet before he returned to his office.

So he goes to McConnell, the only person of note Trump can't fire, and the best person to tell Trump it's over.

I think Trump's plans constitute a "bridge too far" for McConnell as well because he calls Haspel in the following afternoon.

They seem to be getting their "ducks in a row" before approaching Trump and telling him to concede. (There are more nefarious readings of these two meetings especially in light of Trumps shake-up at Defense and the Pentagon. I.e., that they're all in on the coup, but that seems to go against Haspel's nature.)

I think McConnell with a few other Republican senators and perhaps other Republican officials will go to Trump this week (or early next) and urge (demand?) his concession.

Mconnel has NEVER shown there is a bone in his body that cares about anything except raw unfettered power.

I doubt he is angling to temper the president somehow. trump has sown he just doesn't give a crap.

The only hammer mconnel has with him is impeachment, and he won't use that.

I'd like to believe, but doubt strongly in the premise
