Progressives' Wish List for Biden Starts With Warren and Sanders

Two prominent progressive groups, the Sunrise Movement and Justice Democrats, on Wednesday urged President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. to name left-leaning allies including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders to top government posts, firing an opening salvo in the left’s campaign to exert influence over Mr. Biden’s agenda.

Underscoring one of their most significant priorities, the groups also called on Mr. Biden to create a new office dedicated to climate change that reports directly to the president.

The public appeals from the Sunrise Movement, a group of young climate organizers, and Justice Democrats, a grass-roots organization that has helped elect people like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, signal the beginning of the left’s intense efforts to pressure Mr. Biden over the makeup of his executive branch and his administration’s immediate priorities.

And the move represents the end of a truce between Mr. Biden and progressives, who had united behind his candidacy during the presidential campaign with the mission of defeating President Trump, but who have deep ideological and generational differences.

While I don't have a problem personally with either of them serving in the Biden administration I should point out that both their states have Republican governors. Would they appoint a Democrat or Republican as a replacement?

If Biden was dragged more to left & didnt stay true to his beliefs, we would be talking about Trumps upset win again on Election day. I do not understand the far left, do they want to actually get stuff done...or just complain about it...they seem awfully intent on getting more Rs in office...they need to think before they start making demands, most Democrats do not agree with alot of their agenda....yes some ideas need to be incorporated and discussed, BUT we all dont live in +30 districts.

Especially in light of how close this election ended up being and our falling short of expectations in both the house and senate.

The model for winning while abandoning the center has been that we will make it up in Democrat turnout. We ran our most progressive ticket ever, had record turnout, and failed to meet expectations - losing several key swing races in both chambers of congress.

Seems like a lot of Senators to be down during a critical time.

More elections will be more chaos, wish we could put this off somehow or find other options.

Democratic candidates with radical socialism and "defund the police." Having Sanders in a prominent spot in the admin. may help us lose what House majority we have left in 2022.

Won't these people ever learn how things work in DC? You campaign as center left/center to win and then install progressive measures after winning.

burning it down will only help the right and put the expressed goals from these organizations even further away from being realized.

The old idiom "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" certain could be applied here, imo.

Meanwhile, we still have two Georgia senate runoffs and picking Sanders and Warren for administrative positions too soon will indicate to some voters, that Joe IS a Trojan horse for the "socialists" to take over the government, "Eek"! Of course, that is ridiculous, but that is the story that republicans have been selling and it appears a lot of moderate and more conservative voters bought it.

I believe that Joe knows what he's is doing and probably has a good idea already who will serve in his administration. I also believe that Elizabeth Warren is a powerful voice in the senate, one that we should not lose.

They can want it all they want, but they're not going to get it. What good purpose would it serve to REDUCE our numbers in the Senate? This simply isn't a realistic option. We all need to trust Biden's experience and good judgement.

I'm not surprised. Nor should they be surprised when their wish-list isn't granted or fulfilled.

Is barely a Republican and might be willing to agree to appoint a democratic replacement. He is certainly on the outside with the party atm.

However, has either of then won would we be able to demand they appoint Biden to a post? Sorry, but Bidens choices are going to be about governing, not appeasing Justice Democrats.
