I can't stand her, but, she's probably not running again, has 6 years on her term, is in a Blue/Purple State, and she may just be done having to kiss Moscow Mitch's ass.
Doesn't have to change to Dem, but could change to independent and caucus with the Dems.
Don't flame me, but if it could result in putting Mitch in a fucking broom closet, I would swallow my pride and anger.

(10,895 posts)I wonder if the GOP has some dirt on her that would be used.
I doubt she bends over for Mitch because she likes it.

(6,477 posts)She's not going anywhere.
Unless there's a 1 Senator margin or tie after Georgia, then, well...leverage.

(11,518 posts)One of the things that GOPers are good at is swallowing their pride to maintain unity. I often feel that Democrats need to get better at that from time to time. AND if Susie could be convince to work with Democrats we'd have a hell of a lot better chance of getting a few things done (especially since Joe Manchin has already declared that he's going to be a roadblock to real progress.

(7,447 posts)she's a conservative masquerading as a moderate to get elected in Maine, not an actual moderate.

(17,862 posts)Is she actually good at anything that would warrant a Cabinet position - something more apolitical?

(9,729 posts)Secretary of Housing & Urban Development, Commerce, or something. That would allow the Democratic governor of Maine to appoint a Democrat to Collins' seat. I know...pipe dream, never happen, etc. But maybe there are other rePuke senators who might consider becoming a cabinet member. (But only if their governor could appoint a Democrat.) Stranger things have happened!

(10,014 posts)We have many talented Dems to fill those positions.
We dont need any stinking repugs to undermine and embarrass a Democratic administration.

(1,023 posts)He could offer her an ambassadorship (or cabinet post). The governor could place someone of her choice. Janet Mills would have an interesting decision.

It's gonna be a long two years.

(92,187 posts)it is likely we will need to try and work with some republicans to even have a chance to improve the ACA and other things

(46,039 posts)I'm thinking of Lisa Murkowski, though. She's already an independent. Offer one or both of them something really sweet to get them to caucus with the Dems.

(1,110 posts)I think Biden should make Mitt and Susie an offer they cant refuse and bingo! Senate majority.
If we are going to make any headway we are going to have to be as ruthlessly cynical as the repubs.

But, if by some chance it worked... And if it did, Joe would be the man to make it happen...

(6,496 posts)I never heard anything like that. She could decide to run again at 73. Not unheard of.

(15,286 posts)or a combination of any two of them became Indys, along with Sanders and King, they could form an Independent Caucus and actually decide who will be the next Senate majority leader as both Dems and Rs would be denied a majority.
Don't like McConnell holding up everything? Maybe Sen King would be a good choice for majority leader or Romney.
