this may not be their time, and donnie may not be their man, but make no mistake:

the fascist party is in search of a leader who is capable of destroying what's left of our democracy.

in all likelihood, donnie will go fussily into his good night and with any luck those outside his bubble will finally be able to ignore his tweetrants.

but the conditions for authoritarian rule not only remain, but donnie has shown the way for the next dictator wannabe. we have a *lot* of work to do repairing the damage, and to the extent it's done only via executive order, the next republican president will be able to undo it on his first day in office.

we need the senate. if not with these two georgia runoffs, then in 2022 (and we need to hold the house as well, which may be a challenge as the in-party nearly always loses seats in the first midterm). then we can pass laws that really fix things and will be harder to reverse.

moreover, though we need to country the right-wing propaganda in this country. not just finding a counter to foxnews specifically, but also keeping the mainstream media from simply following foxnews' agenda, topics, and even phraseology. if they concoct some stupid investigation like the hillary email scam, then we need to convince the media to laugh at them and ignore them as republicans have zero credibility when it comes to ethics or their accusations against democrats.

we need to establish norms where the media holds republicans to the same standards as democrats.

we need to establish norms where the media holds republicans accountable for backing an insane, incompetent, lying fascist. we can *not* let them get away with claiming donnie was a one-off and he's gone. no. the entire party backed him unquestioningly. they refused to kick him out after impeachment, and they're even supporting his crazy post-election whining.

they need to be held accountable, they need to pay a political price.

we need to create the circumstance where there is a downside for them in supporting fascism.

reaching across the isle while they spit in our faces does not punish them for what they have done and are doing.

for some reason these people in camo and ak-47s never go around feeding the homeless because they fear their lord's wrath if they aren't generous enough to the least of us.

...in states Biden/Harris won (like Pennsylvania and Georgia and apparently others with repuke/fascist legislatures) and the shitstain pile of dung remains "president" what will we do?

Hope for what? Who steps in and fixes something so horribly wrong? The UN? Good luck with that.

...while causing minimal damage to the economy. (Keeping in mind that any hit to the latter over the next half-year or so will be corrected long before election day...IF we can bring the pandemic under control and are able to really reopen by the end of next year.)

The second thing we need to resolve to do as Democrats is go out there and vote in 2022! If you look at past history, Dems are great at turning out for presidential-year elections, and midterms when out of power, but we really suck at the latter when we're in power. Witness 1994, 2010, and 2014. Some may think that "midterms don't matter," as long as we have our guy in the White House to stop any Republican stunts in Congress -- but 2016 proved that such a strategy only puts you one popular/electoral vote split away from handing the reich-wingers total control. Some other Democrats may get disillusioned by the new president failing to enact their agenda 100%, and stay home the next midterm to "send them a message" (I remember lots of people here and on similar sites saying they'd do the same in 2010 because Obama hadn't managed a public option in ACA and/or hadn't pulled troops out of Afghanistan -- to paraphrase Caribou Barbie, how did that messagey-sendy thing work out for you, guys?) We need to make sure that each and every Democrat turns out in 2022 to help us hold the House and take back the Senate.

We should observe how Europe handles their outbursts of demagogic populism and see if we can learn any tricks.

This is not a problem we face alone, but it's a difficult one to solve.

The dictator playbook is ancient, yet the old tricks work like magic. We need to educate our people to recognize the signs of fascism.

Trump or no Trump, they cannot just walk away from the anti-Democratic-process stance they’ve adopted. And unfortunately, at least 40% of Americans are okay with this cancer eating away at the soul of this country.
