President Trump has told friends he wants to start a digital media company to clobber Fox News and undermine the conservative-friendly network, sources tell Axios.
The state of play: Some Trump advisers think Fox News made a mistake with an early call (seconded by AP) of President-elect Biden's win in Arizona. That enraged Trump, and gave him something tangible to use in his attacks on the network.
"He plans to wreck Fox. No doubt about it," said a source with detailed knowledge of Trump's intentions

Sounds great, two centers of lies and deception fighting each other. Looking forward to it.

This could be fun to watch, but then, Trump will be busy fighting Legal challenges.

Yeah, Murdoch's got the money, but Trump's got the cult.
If Trump poaches Hannity and Carlson, that will definitely amp things up a bit.

(47,360 posts)Rupert Murdoch is far more powerful than Trump could ever dream of being. I think he's taking on a fight he can never win, but it is something to look forward to. As hard as it is to believe, I think Trump is getting dumber every day.

(17,523 posts)How is Trump going to have time to do that while running the country for the next four years??????? Don't tell me he is making contingency plans.
I am a bit unsure that Trump could raise funds to start up a Sunday School Picnic while financing his criminal defense.

Although, Trump is like crack to some MSM. They just can't help it to regurgitate his nonsense.

(70,483 posts)Although Fox News is loathsome they have real business people in their organization with
real business plans and Trump is just a hot mess of failed businesses. Funny, how Trump
is now after the organization that propped him up and put him into power. Rupert told him
Trump last summer that he was going to lose and Trump is still pissed.

(182,733 posts)Newsmax, OAN, a new website I heard about yesterday called UncoverDC, Parler, MeWe
NASCAR used to be on antenna TV and was a regular on Sports Center. I guess it was when Fox bought races and have their own sports network - ESPN got frozen out. ESPN reports were only from outside the track. Less mention on Sportscenter. Then NASCAR signed with NBCSports and their network system and it completely disappeared from ESPN and therefore from most of the sports world. Sorry were creatures of habit. Only the smallish hard core fans followed them even on the first step to Fox.
Rightwing media is going to splinter itself and market share into almost nothing. Fox will survive but not near what it was. Eventually their news will become like the tail end of a reality show in which people play to character and everyone tries to out outrage each other for attention. It will be almost indistinguishable for the non-watcher to reality.

(58,785 posts)half of all Americans are conservative. I really don't think they'll go back to the bad old days of news that's not oriented to their worldview. Fox is very watchable and good at what it does, so I suspect it would weather the hit and eventually retain the preeminent position in its market.
Of course there would be changes with Trump TV, as you discuss. Fox reports what its viewers want to hear. If viewership changes, product changes. Guessing OAN would disappear or serve a market too crazy even for Trump TV. Maybe Murdoch would buy access to their spongy brains.

(182,733 posts)The network nightly news shows still draw good numbers. Those of us who follow the news all day may find that strange but again creatures of habit. Fox may just become the right wing standard.
The danger here for them is that their consumer becomes an oddity in normal situations. The water cooler version of the guy yelling on the street. As Ive used as an example before - the first 10 minutes of Hannitys radio show takes a couple of days to understand not only the references and inside jokes but what in the world hes talking about.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)the whackjobbery of Trump and the others. I don't think it'll ever lose its political commentary/propaganda orientation, though. If Trump draws off enough of its nuts, it's "news" could become more honest, the way it does briefly after some mislead viewers get so disgusted at being blindsided by reality that they drop away. More like their business news perhaps.
I'm not sure I've ever listened to Hannity's radio show. Now you have me wanting to, for as long as I could stomach.

(63,221 posts)With what money? He is almost one billion dollars in debt, which will be called on the minute he leaves office. Also, nobody will ever lend him money ever again. He's a bad investment. He's a one-trick pony. Who is going to want to listen to his rants over and over again, especially as he gets more demented. Even his own base was getting bored with him.
I'm sorry, but I really don't think this will be going anywhere. He will not wreck Fox or any other major network. He's a fucking joke and everyone knows it. Once he is out of power, his star will collapse so fast, it will make his head spin.

(15,182 posts)Trump's businesses have gone bankrupt one after another as is. Imagine taking that stunning acumen, and adding even more grifters than usual, all out for themselves, none of them thinking about the good of the business, simply skimming off the top for themselves for as long as the can.
It would be run into the ground, and many millions in debt, in no time.

I read here that the NewsMax owner Ruddy and tRump are best buds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsmax

On the other hand, tRump might start another cable show/tell/sell channel like QVC with his kids and sell wingnut junk like survival gear, Confederate flags and dietary supplements.
