Based solely on the headline I knew right away who the author was, and I was right.
Why Trump is the clear front runner for the 2024 nomination
Anyone want to guess who wrote that pile of dung?

(1,351 posts)Chris Cillizza. I knew right away. Mr. Im so insightful that I see things others dont see. Others dont see them because they are dumb ideas. Trump will not be the 2024 nominee. He will be in jail.

(3,282 posts)Trump is going to still have his cultists in four years from now and they seem to be plenty to get him over in a GOP primary.
I feel like the entire party is making the mistake right now that Ted Cruz and a few others made in 2016 when they didn't attack him early enough so that when he eventually fell they would get his supporters. I'm not sure why they thought he was going to fall if they didn't do something to make that happen.
Now, there doesn't seem to be a republican in congress willing to stand up to him because they don't want to make his supporters angry at them. How many of them think they will run in 2024? I can assure you somebody with a Trump name is going to enter that 2024 primary, so do they think they are going to be able to enter that race without opposing them?

(1,351 posts)1) Trump is insane and will continue to mentally unravel
2) Most likely he will be in jail
3) GOP doesnt want this master of chaos back in the White House regardless of their outward support
4) Trumps supporters have a very short attention span
What I AM worried about though is a smarter Trump-like candidate. Trump has revealed just how far the GOP can go, literally breaking laws (Hatch Act, Collusion, Emoluments Clause) with ZERO repercussions.
If anything, Trumps Presidency has revealed that our Checks and Balances are an illusion. Trump is stupid and ended up hurting himself in the end. Trump did more to end his own Presidency than anything the Democratic Party was able to do.
Now think of a Trump-like candidate who has more political savvy and more intelligence. Thats what scares the heck out of me.

(3,282 posts)that any of the first 3 reasons will hurt him at all.
1: He's been nuts and they just find excuses for why it really means he's a genius.
2: They'll just call that the "Deep State" trying to hurt their guy.
3: What the GOP wants is irrelevant since they are all too afraid to stop him.
and the 4th...
Trump will make sure they don't forget about him. If anything being out of the White House will send him to becoming a louder voice.
I'll believe that Trump isn't the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP nomination is if he dies before then.

(1,351 posts)But I dont think he is as powerful as the media makes him out to be. The allure will quickly fade once he is out of office.

(3,282 posts)than you would like group out there that believes Trump is either Devine or at the very least in direct contact with God. It's hard to have your allure fade when a chunk of your supporters think you are "The Chosen One".

(5,524 posts)Trump seems to have this inexplicable hold on the GOP.
It remains to be seen whether he can keep it. If you were making odds, he would have to be the favorite. I still think the chance is probably no more than 25% that he is the nominee. But in a potentially crowded field with no other lead candidates, his odds would probably be the highest. I am guessing those odds actually exist somewhere already but I don't really care to look.
It never occurred to me before the last few weeks that he would run again after a loss. But it makes perfect sense due to the attention and the money making potential. Perhaps another reason is that he will try to use it as a shield against legal and financial difficulties. Being President has shielded him so he will try to claim that any investigations are politically motivated since he will be a candidate. And his power as President helps against the creditors so the small chance that he could be president again would be at least a little more leverage than what he would have as just a losing candidate.
Having said all that, I don't expect him to make it all the way through to the end. He will campaign for three years and fold quietly when he is behind.
