General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWow! Team USA (soccer) just stepped onto the field wearing jackets with amazing messages on them
Each player had the choice of their own message they wanted on the back of their jacket. Some of the ones I saw were "Stop Racism.", "Spread Love Not Hate", and "Black Lives Matter." Many more great messages besides those. Interestingly, on the front of their jackets, where their logo is, it said "States" rather than United States.
BTW, Team USA is playing against Wales today. The game is in London and is being televised on FS1. That's why I don't have a link for my post because I was seeing it on TV.
on edit: Here's a link to some of the warmup jackets:

(22,236 posts)football, baseball, and hockey over soccer, I would say that Team USA can be proud of themselves, as most of us are of them for the effort they are putting into it. They might surprise you soon, maybe not on the level of our women's team, but they might soon become more competitive than you think.

(101,311 posts)as you'd expect. The Principality (formerly Millennium) Stadium in Cardiff has been on standby as an emergency hospital (it has a sliding roof), so can't be used: https://www.wales247.co.uk/health-board-hands-back-principality-stadium-to-wru/

(22,236 posts)in the first sentence of the article I posted in the above post it says "The United States men's national team returns to the pitch this Thursday with an international friendly at Craven Cottage in London against Wales." Yes, down further in the article it says Liberty Stadium, but doesn't mention that Liberty Stadium is in Wales.
Seriously, I can't believe some of the nitpicking that goes on in some of the threads on this forum, in this case because I got the location of the game wrong? Good grief.

(43,333 posts)I grew up fairly close to the Cottage (but I also was closer to Stamford Bridge, my team, Chelsea's home pitch, which is right down Fulham Road from Onslow Square, where I lived). It (CC) is a tiny stadium, although COVID-19 blocks fans anyway, so size doesn't matter. Real Madrid is playing their home games at their small training stadium, and not at the giant Bernabéu, for instance (although that is also partly do to a massive renovation project at the Bernabéu.)
No biggie either way, cheers!

(6,477 posts)The Liberty Stadium is for the Swansea team, in Wales. Somehow, that article mentions both.
The game, however, is being played at the Liberty in Swansea, Wales. (It would be unlikely to see all those Welsh language ads in West London.

(101,311 posts)but covid-19 screwed up the plans:
Yahoo Sports reported Thursday that the USMNT team was close to announcing a game against Australia but that will not happen now. Another option to face New Zealand also will not happen.
Like the USMNT, Australia was scheduled to hold a camp for its national team in Europe during the fall but referenced the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for calling off that plan.
A camp in Europe next month will be the first time the USMNT has gathered since February. The team reportedly has a friendly lined up at Wales next month, which is expected to be announced soon.

(22,236 posts)are the American Outlaws and all their great chants, with my favorite being the one Biden used in one of his ads, which someone on DU posted here last week. The "We Believe" one.

(8,727 posts)Love both. Of course we all know soccer is a communist sport put in to destroy American Football. I respect the men, but I am obsessed with the woman. They are just amazing. I am a life long football fan, played through college, and never understood soccer until the women took the stage. They actually are why I even watch mens soccer and really love the game.

(43,333 posts)still not 100% sold on Southgate. Time will tell, we certainly have the raw talent and France (ranked number 2) is in a bit of disarray atm. Our centre backs are the weak point, IMHO, as I am not a huge fan of Maguire (although he did score tonight). Belgium, the current number one ranked side, won despite not having an injured (on and off since he left Chelsea for Real Madrid) Eden Hazard. Brazil (ranked 3rd) is the other team above us, and they have looked pretty solid. They have a big game tomorrow with Venezuela.
